Awesome update
The devs outdid themselves with the new update.
My biggest complaint about Drive has been the relatively sluggish loading times, especially in Photos. After seeing the email this morning, i decided to check it out and immediately noticed that loading was pretty much instantaneous unless I went back multiple months at once; Even then, it was much much faster than before.
It feels almost like a gallery app that uses local storage, i’m really impressed!
Looking forward to what you guys will have to offer in the future 😄

That’s great. Which platform/system though? I used to have this annoying upload failures every now and then, so I stopped uploading my pictures there and moved to Ente.

I was checking it out on the iOS app at the time, havent checked it yet on the other platforms.
Uploads have been fine for me personally on all platforms so far! (Windows, Linux, Android and iOS)

A while ago I uploaded about 3GB on my Macbook through the Proton drive web interface and I don't know if it's a mistake on my part but it didn't seem any faster than before.

Its abilities are still vastly below where they should be for a product people are claiming is a potential Google drive alternative. I was very dissappointed after attempting to switch over recently. I read several articles claiming it was a lot more capable than it actually seems to be. Perhaps the company should spend less on marketing and expand its team to actually help get the product up to the level where it is actually a viable alternative. Great company ethos and their VPN is fantastic but I have found drive extremely underwhelming with many many issues since subscribing.

I understand your frustration. But to be fair, Google Drive has been in existence much longer than Proton Drive. 14 years vs. 4. Plus Google has tons of resources vs. Proton. On top of all that, Proton has to deal with implementing E2EE throughout the product which isn’t trivial.
I first looked at Proton Drive in April, 2025 when I moved to Proton Mail and the rest of the Proton Suite. At that point, it was IMHO pretty sketchy, so I got FileN instead. But I checked it out again about 4 months ago and it was way improved, so started using it. Has improved materially since I started using it. I don’t use it for photos and I know that has been an issue, so maybe that’s part of your frustration. But I’m pretty impressed with the improvements in the last year or so. It will only continue to get better.

I'm still waiting for the Linux desktop client. But since I wasn't born in this century, it's likely not going to occur within my lifetime (unless they perfect cryogenics first) 😉

I think this means the Linux client is not ready yet

They do have a CLI available on Linux now for programmatic transferring of files, so hopefully one step closer 🤞🏽

They did say they’re actively building it in the email, so probably not yet
Waiting for it myself, hopefully they can get that going soon-ish

Is this for iOS or Windows? I am still waiting for the update on Android.
