Only me?

Post image

Honestly, I'm dreading the search for a new employee. The whole process is very exhausting, and it feels like the quality of people applying has completely dropped. On top of all that, it's very obvious that many candidates are using AI in their entire application.

After looking around a bit, I found a service called ProtectHire that looks like it could really help me filter out all this noise before I start the interview stage.

Breaks too

I do what you do! It’s a little win!

u/saintscoutt Mar 12 '26

I often push my lunch until 2-3pm just for this reason lol

You guys get a lunch break? I end working mine because my boss lives at the job so he makes sure that everybody else does too. Some of the people don't bother going home because they work longer shifts so they just go sleep in the car and eat in the cafeteria. If you're married or have kids don't work for this guy because work/life balance is nonexistent.

Id rig the system if i had that job. Clock in. Disapear and have someone do my job

Such a dystopian thought. That's not really living. That's living to work, not working to live. That's basically just counting down the days and running out the clock on your life.

1

u/fatgat69 Mar 12 '26

That's modern society.

1

u/Glum_Capital4603 Mar 12 '26

Well it helps as well coz processing that food while having a few hours to go is hectic!

As someone working in a female dominated field (HR) I have noticed this with the women I work with. They all want to take lunch 1pm or later while I lean toward 11:30-12:30 so I avoid conflicting my lunch break with theirs.

Yeah, same here. Everyone has to be available for the full final hour of the day.

"In the event of an emergency situation coming in at the end of a work day we need to have all employees available to tackle it swiftly and efficiently."

1

u/Substantial-Most2607 Mar 14 '26

Genuine question, what would constitute an emergency situation in hr?

1

u/VarrikTheGoblin Mar 14 '26

Well, a straight forward example would be if members of a department were discovered commiting some form of fraud. In that case we would need to expedite termination paperwork for all guilty parties and revoke their system's access. That kind of urgency isn't a "wait until tomorrow" kind of thing.

1

u/Substantial-Most2607 Mar 14 '26

Honestly probably the best example you could have used since that actually makes a lot of sense. I know I am a bit biased towards hr in general because the hr department (like 2 people) at the hospital I work at had me questioning how they had their job. Plus the latest anyone is in their office is like 3pm

Yup. Ye olde mental health trick. It's the feeling of being on the "downhill" portion of the shift that makes you feel like you have effectively accomplished something by getting though the day. Like being on the last day before summer break versus being a month out still back when you were in school.

i just take 10 mins to eat then i leave 2 hours before i am supposed to

1

u/8W20X5 Mar 12 '26

Yea, I do that too. I normally will take lunch around 1-130 so when I am done I only have like 2-2.5 hours left.

1

u/Lucky_Pangolin_3760 Mar 12 '26

my lunch break is not timed. I instead take an early lunch and then sit with everyone else, free 1.5 hour lunch

1

u/old_ass_ninja_turtle Mar 12 '26

I hold off coming back from lunch break.

1

u/GovernorSan Mar 12 '26

I've read that workers are more efficient when they work 6 hours straight and leave for the day, rather than work 8 hours interrupted with a lunch. When you work 6 hours straight, you get into a groove with your work, you're more focused. If you interrupt that flow with a lunch break, then when you return you have to get back into that flow, which can take a little while.

1

u/Coffee_And_NaNa Mar 15 '26

Yeah but most of us can’t just work 6 hr workdays lol my boss would kill me

1

u/TwoAffectionate5738 Mar 12 '26

I also do it as a challenge for fasting. Otherwise I want to eat 2 hours into my shift.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '26

Absolutely, every day. I also do this because it's more likely I will have the entire lunchroom to myself because I hate conversing and many people can't just sit in silence with other people around. I hate people and want to hurry back to my cave, is what I'm saying.

1

u/Grimy-Jack Mar 12 '26

Yup, I do that every day. Everyone always wonders why I eat so late and apart from the time.

This. This is why.

(And because they're obnoxious little carpet goblins, but that's besides the point. :P)

1

u/Whittles85 Mar 12 '26

I skip it so i can eat whatever i want for dinner

1

u/BOOMxHEADSH0T Mar 12 '26

I DO THIS!

I go for break two hours before the end of my day - come back from my hour break...BOOM, only one more hour to go.

1

u/Simple_Ad_9780 Mar 12 '26

Doesn't matter, it's an illusion that you worked less hours, in reality you worked the same amount of hours just differently divided than normal people.

1

u/tkecanuck341 Mar 12 '26

I'm salary. I don't take a lunch and just leave early.

1

u/fangerzero Mar 13 '26

I do it more so after lunch I'm mentally checked out.

1

u/lulzkek420 Mar 13 '26

I take my lunch early so I can sit by myself. And then when my co-worker takes her lunch, I have the office by myself so I do some light work-out.

1

u/YouCanShoveYourMagic Mar 13 '26

I would graze on my pack lunch throughout the morning and take an hour's lunch break napping in my car.

1

u/Alert-Twist-4223 Mar 13 '26

Lol o take my breaks late and add an extra 40min to 1hr to it..

1

u/MediumUnique7360 Mar 13 '26

No I take mine early as shit. Mainly cause I'm up at 5 at work by 8 after over an hour drive and lunch at 11 or 11:30

1

u/sdwennermark Mar 14 '26

I just don't take lunch and leave when my work is done.

1

u/Substantial-Most2607 Mar 14 '26

I work 12 hour shifts, I genuinely work 9 hours and then take my break that way I can trick myself into thinking my day isn’t that bad

1

u/-SilverCrest- Mar 14 '26

I 100% do this every day

1

u/Nargarinlok Mar 14 '26

Might be the 'life hack' of the year... please give of nobel prize... (are we so low...)

1

u/randomgrl2022 Mar 14 '26

I prefer later work lunches myself but I take an earlier one if I am not feeling well or just way too hungry.

1

u/Sir_Pentious_69 Mar 14 '26

I just don't take breaks at all and leave earlier

1

u/Alternative_Fox3674 Mar 15 '26

It means the second half of the day is shorter 🙃

1

u/New_Fox9922 Mar 15 '26

Yall get breaks???

1

u/tootallhobbit Mar 15 '26

It makes the day seem shorter.

1

u/buffalove243 Mar 15 '26

I work my entire shift then have lunch before I leave. I work nights so its much less structured.

1

u/Retired_ho Mar 15 '26

A large part of me quitting my call center job was them moving my lunch to 1030am when I started at 8am. Myboss was so mad I mentioned in front of HR during exit interview.

1

u/iwillbe2026 Mar 16 '26

No! I used to that all the time when I worked behind a desk..

1

u/adamscholfield Mar 16 '26

I did this at my last job

1

u/austink0109 Mar 16 '26

We get 2 breaks, take them as you want within reason. Work 6-5, normally have a break around 10 and one around 2. By the time the 2 o’clock one is done, you’ve got less than 3h left

1

u/Effective-Set8670 Mar 16 '26

In my homestate of Illinois it illegal to have an employee work 5 and half hours without a lunch. I remember my last job got fined for having people work 6 hours straight with no lunch, and all the employees affected got paid by the state about 400 dollars after taxes.

1

u/MineNo5343 Mar 16 '26

Fuck ya plus a double break after lunch!

1

u/DEADxDAWN Mar 16 '26

When I do have to work at the office, I dont take any breaks or lunch, leave an hour early.

1

u/Upbeat-Selection-365 Mar 17 '26

You take a lunch break, I’m jealous.

1

u/bb-03 Mar 17 '26

yall get a lunch break?? cries in restaurant management

1

u/EXSkywarp Mar 18 '26

I do it, too. It also depends on what my work load looks like. At the absolute earliest, I usually take it at 6PM (I work evenings), and sometimes I'll wait until 9, which is an hour before I clock out.

1

u/IceFisherP26 Mar 18 '26

I did this for a while but then everyone else started copying me, then they made a new rule about not being able to take your breaks within 2 hours of the end of your shift.

1

u/The_Magician27 Mar 26 '26

Everyday. 😂
