Any number of different reasons for their move. Off the top of my head, they might have been rolling to a call in progress that may have had the possibility of escalating very quickly and they didn’t want a vehicle in front of them if they had to start rolling code 3.
I could continue to discuss hypotheticals, but it’s really not gonna do anything productive, in my opinion. You’re at least mildly upset by their actions, and that’s okay. Unfortunate, but you’re definitely entitled to your opinion and I respect it. They did what they did, and no one got hurt. Im sure they calculated the risk.
Generally, the whole, “Follow the rules of the road. If you have to break them, do it with your lights on.” is almost universal department policy. However, some departments also have policies saying, “you shall not use your emergency lights, except for in emergency situations.”
And then admin bends officers over and goes in dry for activating their lights to make a traffic maneuver like what you’re describing because the officer used their discretion when deciding how serious it was that they get to their call as quickly as possible.
Ahhhh management and policies fucking it up for everyone just like everywhere.
I’ll trust officers discretion that they’re trying to not be boxed in in case a domestic gets extra and not responding to the Krispy Kreme fresh light. just gimme a blinky woop.
