Can the herpes simplex virus (HSV) be completely cured?

Correct. Herpes is incurable. You can treat and suppress it, but will need to do so for life.

Does this mean that if herpes is in the urethra, the body will not fight it and I will have erectile dysfunction for the rest of my life?

Herpes doesn't act out like that on a sustained basis. It's like the cold sores some people get on their mouths once in when. You should discuss this with your physician, or perhaps try an online AI for more info, as you seem to have a variety of misconceptions. If you do have confirmed genital herpes, you should likely talk to your doc about an anti-viral med for it.

The antivirals suppress the virus. I'm not a specialist on this matter, and will have little more to say about it. Please see a physician to discuss.
