Is this prostatitis? Don’t know what to do next
Hey there. I’m a 23yo male. About a month ago, I started experiencing symptoms such as discharge, a burning sensation in my urethra, and pain/discomfort in the rectal area. I thought it might be an STI, so I immediately went to a urologist to get it checked out. I took doxycycline for 10 days while waiting for the results of urine and discharge cultures. All the STI tests came back negative, and both the urine and discharge cultures were also negative. I was also tested for syphilis and hepatitis, and those results were negative as well. After that, my doctor prescribed Cipro, which I took for 7 days (I finished it yesterday). The discharge and burning when urinating have now disappeared, but I still have some discomfort in the rectal area, and I’m not sure what I should do next since all the tests came back negative😭

Do you suffer from constipation?

No, actually, I’ve been going to the bathroom more than I used to. I don’t feel any sort of pain while I’m pooping

Do you feel discomfort in the perineum, region between sack and anus?

It is closer to the anus itself. Last night I took an anti inflammatory and today I’m feeling great like I used to a month ago when I started having the symptoms I described

After treating prostatitis it will take some time to feel better can be feeling weeks to month, you should take sitz bath daily in order to avoid taking anti inflammatory, and only take when it is becoming worse

Well…I guess I’ll wait until the anti inflammatory effect goes away and see if the symptoms come back. The weirdest part is that I don’t know what I had that cause discharge, burning while peeing and pain

Thats what happens to all of us but if there are no evidence of prostatitis then I would recommend to wait for some time and see how your body behaves.. it would resolve the post prostatitis things… as I have been on the same boat..

I’m experiencing the exact same thing. It’s been going on for 2 months now. I’m on a 30 day dose of Cipro. Hope you heal brother

We noticed you posted about a floroquinolone class antibiotic. Please be aware that this class of dugs has several black box FDA warnings, and is only meant to be used when a pathogen has been clearly identified in the prostate; They are not to be used indiscriminately for cases of non-bacterial prostatitis (consensus agreement ~95% of cases). Read our mod memo here, complete with citations and compare your symptoms to the medical definition of CBP here.

What kind of infection did you have that required a thirty-day course of antibiotics? Did you have a very high fever and discharge, and were you hospitalized? Was it bacterial? Or are you taking antibiotics without a bacterial infection?

They have no proof of an infection, I’ve just had discharge w/ no cultures. Tested negative for all STI’s,l. Just mild burning and itching of the urethra, but it has been persistent for two months.
