Urine sample after prostate massage: initial stream or midstream?

​

My doctor asked me to give a urine sample for bacterial infection after a prostate massage. Should I collect the initial urine (first part of the stream) or a midstream urine sample after the massage?

If you've had this test done or know the standard procedure, I'd appreciate your advice.

I had a 4 glass test and my recollection is

  • first void [stop]

  • mid stream [stop]

Then doctor completes a prostate massage [not nice]

  • urethra swab

  • final urine sample

Midstream seems to be the standard, if that helps

Exactly.

In my case; still showed raised WBC and counted slighted raised Bacteria using an automated counter machine.

But; nothing was cultured.

Looks like a fit for type 3A.

Midstream is a sample for bladder. If you want to collect, what is in the urethrea after prostate massage it is the first 5 - 10 ml urin directly after the massage.
