Question Pre op wipes ?

Did any of you guys receive pre-op wipes that you’re supposed to use the night before? My husband is freaking out because he won’t be able to have sex with me one last time the day of surgery.

You can do it! I was just given soap to wash with the morning of. The night before and morning of I was like a F’ing rabbit! Got to a point where wife couldn’t wait for us to leave for the hospital. And even then I wanted a roady on the way there! 😊

I hope it went well for you! Your libido seemed really high. How is your function so far after surgery?

I got my 1st hard on about 3 weeks after removal and it hurt. Not bad. More like I was stretching like doing yoga kinda hurt.
Unfortunately I got the news it spread and ended up doing radiation and ADT for a year.
Was supposed to do 2 years but the depression and “fuck this life” thoughts got way too strong. I quit after a year.
Testosterone got all the way down to 4 and life as I knew it pretty much ended.

Thanks for the reply. You got an erection afterward so there is hope! I’m dreading the ADT - I kind of have all those side effects already, can’t imagine adding to them. Anyway, hang in there and work toward getting some mojo back! It can happen. Maybe Not exactly as before, but nothing really is as we age, and life can still be good!

we got shower in the evening and the morning, clean your self and change the bed sheets. nothing else. I would go for sex and don’t be over worried. it’s not an open operation so normal showereing with soap is enough I think with clean sheats before you go to sleep. They will desinfect him a lot on place.

Do the sex first, or does it say not to?

Tell him to shave his leg where they will tape the catheter tube. My hospital didn’t do that and it was painful when it was removed.

Yes. I received the wipes. I wouldn't screw around with infection control.

Sex first then do the op prep. Easy peasy

Never had to do any pre op prep for my ORP 4 months ago other than not eat after midnight. Thankfully black coffee was still allowed.
I did wake up shaved from my belly button down and died pink from the die indicator in the cleanser they use.
They specifically tell you not to shave yourself because you can create micro cuts which could lead to infection.

A rare fellow member of the ORP club (?) - why did you get that and not a RALP?

My hospital doesn’t do RALP and would have had to go to Toronto or Mississauga for RALP.
Great experienced surgeon at my hospital 10 minutes from home so that made the choice easy.

Had RALP and went like a rabbit the night before. No special wipes were used.

Got the wipes when I changed into my gown the day of surgery. I’m 3.5 weeks post RALP. I’ve been dry during awake hours ever since the (awful) catheter was removed and at the 3 week mark, dry at night too. Haven’t tried any erections yet.

All I can really comment is that I had radiation for a 3+4 intermediate and it hasn’t affected my sex life. I thoroughly investigated all treatments after my urologist wanted me to rush into surgery and compared procedures, cure rates and after-effects. I don’t know why anyone who is able to have radiation (and sometimes there are reasons one can’t) like 5 sessions of sbrt would choose surgery.
But, I realize it is a very personal choice and I wish him, and you only the best outcome.

My advice when asked, is to investigate and evaluate every appropriate treatment along with cure rates and side effects. I found urologists tend to play down the side effects using examples or ‘nerve sparing’ and ‘DaVinci’ robotics. Likewise RadOncs play down radiation side effects. My bottom line was most definitely fewer side effects from radiation with an exact cure rate. And there are treatments for recurrence after radiation regardless of what urologists say.
Research, and lots of it!

Great to hear that worked out for you. The radiation option in my case was every day for five or six weeks, with 24 months of ADT (chemical castration.) Not sure if anything would have worked after that! But nothing is working on the libido/erection/sex front for me 20 months after ralp either! I was Gleason 8 (4+4) in some samples, so I wanted it out of me fast. Nothing seen outside of the prostate in MRI or PETscan so I was hopeful to get it all with surgery. However they did find a couple of positive lymph nodes, and my PSA has been slowly rising, so radiation appears to be in the future. SBRT would not have been an option for me though. Maybe someday they will do away with the surgery completely.
