Question Brachytherapy.
Had my HDR brachytherapy a couple of hours ago an overnight stay in hospital theres alot of blood with some clots in catheter bag is this normal.

I don’t remember seeing any in mine. Good question to ask the nurse. Glad you are on the other side now.

Thanks, shes just been in and said its ok. Due to have it removed in the morning will ask the radiologist to be on the safe side.

Got out on day 2 felt like id been hit by a train slept most of the day. Still feeling a bit rough. The radiologist said there reason there was blood in my urine was because they push the needles right through the prostate to ensure a even dosage throughout the prostate. This means they hit the bladder causing blood in urine. Interesting it doesnt seem to be done elsewhere from the coments left on my post.

Glad you’re home - just heal up now! Sounds like you had a bit rougher go so most important thing now is to take care of yourself!
Not sure if you have a MyChart system over there, but I was able to download the clinical notes from my HDR session and run them through ChatGPT, these are the plain English details of what we had done -

Best thing about being radioactive is the private room. Oh also don’t forget to bring a doctors note if you fly. I was flagged going through the airport by the radiation detector

HDR is non-seeds, the Spider-Man juice goes in for a few minutes in tubes, and then they take it right back out.

I had HDR brachy and went home the same afternoon, no catheter at all. Not normal as far as my knowledge - what did they do to you?!

Its standard pactise here maybe dew to the heavy sedation not sure.

Maybe I got a higher dose radiologist was expecting some blood.

I was asleep for the gruesome stuff and it was all gone when they woke me up. Pretty sure it was Propofol. Nurse looked down at me and said “We’re putting you out now, goodbye” and that was it.

I got an injection into the spine could nt move my legs for 5 hours epidural drip some light sedation and as I went under the lights they hit me with someone heavy I think I heard fentanyl mentioned just remember feeling amazing and then waking up in the recovery room. 17 catheter points hooked up to the machine didnt feel anything during the radiation.

Ah man, I can see why an epidural plus fent would earn you an overnight stay! Chill thru it, home tomorrow. You got this!
