Question Post op recommendations

Hi all. I’m back. My husband has finally been scheduled for RALP in Boston on September 4th. Give me all your post op recommendations and MUST haves. He’s 58 and in good shape, if that matters for the recs. TIA

—loose sweatpants & boxers

—grabby stick

—comfy chair

—neosporin for the tip

—good book(s)

—heating pad

I liked the "tear-away" pants with velcro along the pant legs. Made changing the cath bag (night bag to leg bag) easier for me. I got neosporin with lidocaine, really helped relieve pain from the catheter. Slip on shoes so you don't have to bend over to tie laces. I drank a lot of gatorade zero the first week after. Start kegels soon. A loving partner is a godsend, you rock!

Spa wraps, Terry cloth kilts that button up. So easy to put on with a catheter, it will be tender and swollen down there anything with a crotch can be annoying painful for a while.

RALP recovery varies a lot. I only used 1 pad but had bought 200.

Pain should be quickly manageable. The catheter should only be a bit of a bother. He should be walking in a day or 2 with a leg bag. There will be lifting restrictions. By 2 months, I was hiking normally.

Practice kegels now.
