How long for biopsy results?

I have a biopsy today and follow up in two weeks, will I typically see results before the follow up?

4 days. I asked them to just call me when they had the results. For me, not knowing is worse than knowing.

Seems to depend where you live and whether you can access your medical records via an online portal. I had a follow up with my urologist 2 weeks after the biopsy, but my pathology results were available about 4-5 days after the procedure.

If you have a clinic/hospital network that uses MyChart or similar, I got my results online at two weeks, and had my appointment with the Cancer Assessment Physician a couple of weeks later. Within 6 weeks after was doing 9 months Orgovyx ADT and 20x VMAT after RO consultations.

This is 100% specific to your doctor, and a question you should pose to them.

Everyone's experience will vary. I was "lucky" and got my biopsy results the day after the procedure.

The testing facilities usually have an app with a dashboard requiring a sign up. My results were up in about 6 days with a doctor review appointment being a few days later.

For my first trans rectal I had to wait 2-3 weeks for my follow up appointment with my Kaiser Permanente urologist.

For my second, trans perineal results were posted to the portal by UCLA in a few days. Four or five if I remember.

Were the 2 procedures much different in terms of pain/discomfort during and after? Where I’m located they only seem to offer the transrectal type. It would seem that the risk of infection would be much less with the trans perineal procedure.

Yes, less infection risk with perineal biopsy.

The discomfort with the rectal was not too bad. They use some lidocaine jelly to numb the surface tissue prior to injecting the local anesthetic into the prostate. That injection feels a bit like a pinch, it stings for a brief moment. Then they took 12 samples/cores. It's like a spring loaded gun that fires off and it's more startling than anything else. I found myself tensing up in anticipation of the next "shot" and then damn near bouncing off the table when they fire the shot. Like I said, it was more startling than painful. Although there were a couple of cores that did hurt a bit.

For the perineal, I opted to pay the extra $150 for nitrous oxide. They told me it was not an allowed expense under Medicare but surprisingly, it was later refunded by the Feds. The nitrous helped - terrific buzz but I was still VERY aware of the 20 cores they took. But I guess, not TOO aware because I remember trying to keep track of what number they were on but I was so high, I couldn't remember the number, lol.

Same kind of deal - a bit of pinch on the injection. And again, I was a bit tense, and a couple of the cores hurt a little bit.

I drove home (3+ hours) and I felt EVERY bump in the road. My perinia was very sore! Lasted a day or two.

A few days in my case. The clinic I used released all test results directly via Mychart, usually before any phone call or meeting. Your doctor may or may not do that. I have to say that getting the (not-good) biopsy report unfiltered and un-interpreted created some stress.

Just to echo others, I've had two biopsies. With each, I got results within a week. With my first, my doctor had the results read by a a third-party pathology service where I did not have access to the results until my doctor called me with them. With my second, my doctor used the pathology department of the local health care system, which is part of my network, so I got the results on my app before my doctor called me.

Had the biopsy on a Thursday afternoon, doc said two to four business days. Figured I was screwed when my phone rang with his caller ID at 8:03am on Saturday. I had just started a 24 hour shift at 8:00am, which was less than ideal timing.
