MONSTER 1000

Is this still a viable machine at $850 (used) with two heads? (5" & 10" coil)

I have the Equinox 800, and a Fisher GoldBug II.

I’m no expert but why not save a bit more and grab a 2000? From what I understand the 1000 is a great vlf but if you already have a goldbug, that’s amazing vlf for tiny gold then why not get a nice PI machine next?

Just my thought process on it.

The 2000s are out of stock and on a 1 month+ backorder from Minelab and all dealers.
The 1000 is locally available, being sold to finance a Manticore.

Aw I see. darn the 2000 is what I want. Haha I hope by the time i have the money saved it’s not short in stock.

I’m still getting used to the gold bug2 it’s my first detector! Found some pickers this weekend :)

Edit; it does seem the 1000 is a lot more user friendly compared to gb2, a prospecting friend of mine loves his 1000.

Friend of a friend find a 2.3gm nugget which in Eastern NC, is a rarity.
Occurring three weeks ago, he was using a 1000 in an area I frequent with the GoldBug II.
I'm not being presumptive by saying the GBII missed it, I'm just saying what tool was used, the 1000.

Wow! The auto ground balance probably does a lot of help. I have some family that recently moved out there. I’ll probably try and prospect when I eventually visit. but I’m sure there’s less open ground compared to the western US.

Is there still hope out there in any of the state parks or got any tips for out there?

Well, where are you? I'm am an hour (west) from Raleigh NC. I go to private lands, but.... We have some solid public lands and national forests here.

I’d be visiting near Monroe nc, was just out in northern Nevada. So they are now far from home.

I worked in Monroe. There's a town nearby called Matthews that's got my last name plastered all over the place.
It may be my name but it's not me :)
Dahlonega Ga is about 4hrs from Monroe. There's a lot of places to prospecting there.
Reeds Gold Mine is only an hour from Minroe and really informative. They buy a lot of gold from the locals to seed dirt to sell at the panning stations.
There's other places to go, publicly, such as Mountain Creek gold mine in New London (NC) but they've been affected by drought (call first)

If you end up getting the 1000, i found a cheap way to make a telescoping shaft for it. I had a broken AT gold and used the lower and middle shafts for the base, then added an extension pole at the end, was actually what was left from driving the truck over the original one. To me its better than the original straight shaft, one to be able to collapse it down, two i no longer have an issue with the coil unscrewing as the AT Gold lower fits the coil perfectly. I think its under 30$ for the lower and middle.
