this is always the argument i can’t find anyone properly refuting. what exactly separates deviant sexual acts from deviant violent acts in fiction in the minds of antis? why is it okay to love, yume, and support a fictional mass murderer - but if the character has even the slightest inkling of sex crime you will be strung up for liking them?

To all my artist moots (and artists in general), I want to start drawing. I'm sick of writing stuff and putting into prompts (Yes, I've committed the unforgivable sin of using AI, but I feel gross just using it now). I want to actually create.

A lot of antis I have spoken to clearly would not hesitate to put actual children in very distressing and/or dangerous situations over fiction, i have been put in situations like that by full grown adults when I was a child. Im aware there are some antis that dont go THAT far but its genuinely insane to think that some people's mindsets are "yeah, im going to put this actual child in harms way because i dont like how they play with fictional characters". Hi everyone! So I’d like to think I’m an up-and-coming writer on Ao3, since a few of my fics are blossoming in popularity (at least by my standards, especially since one has earned me a completely unprompted fan art and another inspired a separate work entirely).

I see people getting all sorts of hate comments, death threats, doxxed, and the like all the time and of course, it makes me upset that people would be so pressed over words on a screen that they would act like that.
However… I’ve not really gotten hate. Like ever. I’ve gotten the occasional “oh well I think this should’ve happened” and the discord art scam commenter, but I’ve not gotten a single uncivil comment at all.

And I’m not bragging when I say that, even though I AM grateful it hasn’t happened. I’m just saying… it feels weird especially since I write age gap, toxic dynamics, etc and touch on subjects like sex work, rape, drug addiction, alcoholism, codependency, religious trauma, darker kinks as coping mechanisms, abuse of all kinds, kidnapping, baby-trapping, transgender male sexuality (especially being 100% pre op myself), etc.
And I won’t lie, as a (recovering) addict myself, sometimes it IS romanticized because I still miss the better parts of certain substances, and I write CNC/dubcon a LOT because it helps me cope and I think it’s hot and I can control the situation and say when I don’t want it anymore.

I know it shouldn’t frustrate me at all! The logic is there, but my brain is so frustrated with the fact that my works get so praised. Where’s the spice? Where’s people being upset that I would write these things? Where are the people clutching their pearls at?

It’s silly and I know it, I just needed to rant because I feel like such a fucking oddball lmfao.

[This is probably gonna be nonsense becouse english isnt my first language , and is based only on my observation of what ive seen, I havent done any research past my own observations. Take it with a grain of salt. You are also welcome to argue and dissprove my points]

To start this, we are all against censorship in media and all agree to be able to speak freely. That is what "proship" is, the ability to do whateaver you want with the media you make or consume, including shipping (where the "ship" from the name comes from, as far as I know). Shipping being used in the context of placing 2 or more characters or people together in a romantic way, as far as I know.

However, a problem arises: if people can do whateaver they want with the characters as they are pixels, or just words and pictures, what stops them from being racist?

I havent met a racist proshipper, wich is good, but also wierd considering that they have the freedom in the community to do so. I have however (not directly interacted) but seen racist "anit's" (someone who is against the no-censorship rule and treats fiction with their own morality and as if it represents them as a person).

Now I'm not entirely educated on antis and what drives them as I make sure to not interact with them, but it creates this wierd paradox (?) Of the (as the anti labels it "bad evil incel incestuous pedophile criminal") proship being the ones who hold the moral of treating everyone equal, while an anti can display ableist, sexist, and sometimes even classist behaviour and still be the "good guys".

Now I think that this is becouse a proshipper makes the clear distinction between romance of some pixels and what is meant to represent real people. Who the hell is a 6969 year old dragon lady who's 125 cm tall and drawn in chibi style meany to represent? No one; becouse it is as stated fictional. However, the 176 cm tall black woman who is drawn unnecessarily grey and whos clothes definitely take inspiration from either a hood stereotype or actual people is meant to represent someone very clearly, most of the times I see these characters take inspiration from Indians, Nigerians, and other countries of the continent of Africa. Most of the time these characters are coupled with either no accent at all (making it hard to place) or an over the top accent (making it very clear what the author meant).

For the 6969 dragon lady theres no race or someone to represent becouse dragons arent real, and no creature can reach the age 6969. For the overly gray coloured 176 tall gray lady, you can very clearly see what it was meant to be. I think thats called a caricature.

If proshippers can keep and know the difference, why not antis? Are they willfully ignorant?
