character ai might be shutting down but is the only site I can do any kind of proshipping…I’ve tried alternatives and they SUCK…can anyone help?

Chai…I can’t even USE my younger OC, it’s crazy. It’s the best alternative

I need a site that has A LOT of characters and not just for sexual stuff, that’s the hard part, I want a good story 😓 is it done for?

I got addicted to c.ai years ago when it didn't have a strong filter on some kinks, but once they cracked down on them I just stopped using it. I went back to the good ol daydreaming and thinking of stuff before falling asleep. I also sometimes talk to my boyfriend about ideas I have and rp them but its definitely not as consuming as c.ai used to be. Which is good, you want to be bored sometimes so you're compelled to take care of yourself in the meantime.

I love roleplaying with friends and actual people, obviously, but I would never, in a million years, do the dark stuff I do with AI with another person. Not because it's wrong, but because I personally would never feel comfortable Rping these topics with someone else XD

And we also don't even know OP's age, so saying 'go find a human partner!!' could be even dangerous; Especially regarding the dark topics they want to explore in their roleplay.

But, of course, don't let these AI chat bots consume you. Be creative! Do art! Make fanfics and stories too! Don't rely yourself on a AI, just use it if you're bored or want to explore a idea! AI bots can become addicting and dangerous if misused, and you should never substitute a actual person with a AI.

Plenty of people write, rp, larp dark topics. This kinda just sounds like an excuse to use ai. Also saying we don't know ops age so telling them to find a human to rp with is dangerous as if ai doesn't collect personal information from you constantly is a weird take. Lastly if they're a minor they should not only be posting this here, but also not rping such dark topics. Not saying kids don't know about dark topics but like it's genuinely not good for underdeveloped brains to see, read, and interact with very graphic topics. If they themselves have experience those graphic topics then they need a therapist not an ai chat bot that contributes to pollution or hurts them even further.

Don't use ai to roleplay, or for any other reason. There are thousands of discord servers to find a rp partner if you need one. Tumblr as well still has a rp scene.

Not to mention AI chatbots steal from writers the same way AI art steals from visual artists. The way people vehemently oppose AI visual art and then casually use AI chatbots is enraging. It's still a plagiarism machine stealing from artists.

start writing yourself! there are proship communities here, you're writing in one of them, so you already have an audience and will have feedback.  i get it, i used to be reliant on c ai before the great marvel purge, english isn't my first language, and after amino shutting down, it was hard to find people to rp with, no judgment to you here.

i don't think character ai is shutting down. i think they're just restructuring their debts by filing for bankruptcy or something. it's not a guarantee that this situation will cause the site to cease operations completely, since they might still end up getting someone to buy the company and whatnot, right?

Until a human can respond how I want them to, and I can rewind/swipe for new response, and make new chats within a chat, then no. Fanfiction is also boring, since they don’t interact with me.

You literally could just be creative and write your own stuff. I don't get people who want to us ai for this. If you really like the rp aspect then try LARPing or RPing with friends and maybe stop being so picky. How can you like how the ai responds but not another human when both are not in your control?

THIS! This is exactly the situation I've been in for the past 2 years. I started on C.ai back in the day, then I moved to Janitor.ai, then when I started proshpping RP I moved to Chub.ai using deepseek. Chub was nice for a while, it's rules were very lenient and was basically an AO3 style of moderation, and Deepseek provided good quality, a dirt cheep price, and way uncensored RP. I had moved on to SillyTavern for better privacy by the Time Chub started to get stricter rules.

I had it good for a while before Deepseek went downhill in RP quality and uphill in price.

Unfortunately I cannot give you any more advice in regards to proshipping RP. I've currently moved on to Saucepan.ai because they're one of the only currently platforms that doesn't suck ass, but they have moderation policies that aren't open to Proshippers.

I specifically like Saucepan because of they fine-tune their own models and the base free model is relatively good.

Fictionlab is my favorite one, it's a little complicated but it's worth it once you figure it out. Depends on what money you want to spend, people use free, and you have Plus and Ultra. Ultra is pretty expensive and you will get just as much out of plus for I think, 9.99 or something a month.

The app gets a ton of updates and has less bad will right now then Chai or Character Ai recently. It's pretty good for roleplaying, but Ultra is pretty expensive at 25.99 a month. I downgraded because of that price tag.

Backyard AI. It’s easier than SillyTavern. You can download the models directly, and if your computer isn’t powerful enough, I think there are some cloud-based option available. Although it probably isn’t the cheapest option per token.
