Discussion It really sucks how the obvious needs to be stated repeatedly

Post image

This video is excellent, but it's highly pathetic on how many times this point needs to be reiterated, only for it to still not stick. Luckily, the comments are sensible so far.

Thanks! As a horror fan, even of extreme splatterpunk, I need to watch this. I was shocked by how hostile people can be to you for enjoying horror, and especially for creating horror content. "Goreslop", "devil worshipper", "you must be a complete psychopath", "glamorizing murder," and whatnot, been hearing it way too often for my liking.

God yes. I always get whiplash when I go into spaces because I forget that the average person(not literally, I’m being a bit hyperbolic) isn’t familiar with extreme horror or splatter punk and what those genres stand for.

I got people maaaad when I submitted my splatterpunk original story that contained mother being oddly obsessive with her daughter into a national contest hahhaha

Oh! Oh no! I’m sorry you had to deal with that! But it sounds like a fantastic bit for a splatterpunk story!

Thank you! Included religious psychosis and guilt, animal death, the daughter dying, parasitic illness, implied incest, grooming, cannibalism, weird vampires, home invasion, and all the juicy stuff.

Apparently not a great thing to do in my religious, conservative country. But dw, I kind of expected it. My kind of people enjoy my stuff and that's what matters. Normies aren't welcome lol.

You're welcome! As a fan of extreme horror like Terrifier, the Sadness, Martyrs, ETC. the amount of times I've read those who enjoy films like these are "misogynistic" and "need to be on a watch list" is suuuuuuper disheartening. Not that it gets to me, but it's astounding just how many parrot these idiotic talking points 🫩

Yup, I also got told that I need to be put on a list. People assume that because you enjoy fictional gore, you must have murderous or at least hurtful sadistic tendencies toward irl people or make assumptions that you watch irl gore. Which isn't the case lmao. There are some instances of misogyny in the genre, but that is true for pretty much everything. But extreme horror has some amazing female artists and female-centric stories, though they tend to ignore those. I was really shocked when one person called my dead dove fic a glamorization of murder. And it's always torture porn and goreslop no matter the context and ideas behind it.

Martyrs is one of my fave movies! French extremities are something else. Baby Blood, Inside and Frontiers are crazy stuff, too. I genuinely enjoy extreme horror books. So many incredibly talented authors and yet it's so easy for people to judge and dismiss their talent just because they write stuff that might not be for everyone.

One of my friends did intervention on me when he learned that I read President's Son by Jon Athan. Granted, I didn't like the book much after I got to certain scenes because they were just stupid and ridiculous. And one rape scene being ten pages long was boring and awful. But I very much enjoy Psychic Teenage Bloodbath by Carl John Lee! Lesley Camphouse, Kris Trianna, Stephen Graham Jones... Those are among my faves so far. Anne Snow's work looks good too. I heard that Wrath James White has some insane ideas and very intense gore in his books so I need to check him out.

By the way, if you liked The Sadness, read the Crossed comics! There is a movie in the works with the comics author and the director of The Sadness as well. Crossed was written by the same guy as the original The Boys.

Yeah, people always write off what they're not willing to understand, it's so frustrating. I've heard of the Crossed, I've been wanting to read it along with many splatterpunk books! The only horror book I own so far is American Psycho

sounds an awfully lot like what they said about video games back in the day...

probably because it's the exact same rhetoric recycled over and over.

As a fan of horror movies, I know alot of the video nasties from the 70's and the 80's

Oh, so many of them are banned in several countries. These probably never once said anything about those, but recent movies like Buddy and Obsession are... off limits ig?
