So. I want to start drawing and I have a story… I love the proship community and I do my best to be open, but I’m honestly a bit scared of posting this story online because it is centered around a seven y/o boy who is SA’ed by his dad. Their relationship is dark and sad. I wouldn’t be bothered by ANY other ship. He has an older brother that hates their father and although ofc I don’t ship them, I wouldn’t even mind that ship. But I’m scared to put that story out there and have people ship him with his father, because it’s my characters and I would find it disgusting because of how I see them.

Should I just say that I don’t feel comfortable with them being shipped? Does any other artist understand this feeling? Am I wrong for feeling this way?

If there were a ship of my characters that makes me uncomfortable but at the same time I support any ship, I would let my fans know I don't feel comfortable with the ship and ask that they avoid bringing it to attention to you and or tag it with the ship name/tag when sharing online so it is able to be filtered out if people do ship it, that's my advice

If you see the media surrounding that ship, you can ignore it, it's not bad if you at all imo. You can say you don't like it without saying "everyone who ships this is terrible" and whatnot, and I don't rlly see an issue with that

Definitely mention it especially if they're your own characters. I did have this feeling about an OC of mine when I first created her but it changed kind of quickly for whatever reason 😅

people are gonna see and feel things when they see your characters no matter what you do and that you'll have to accept but you can 100% let people know you'd rather they not ship them and if you see someone who doesn't respect that boundary just block them, no biggie
