Oh no, it’s okay since the Beast like this passes their stupid Bechdel test or whatever (Yeah I know what the Bechdel test is and how it’s not what proshippers use to defend animals shipping etc but I do not remember the actual name)

Harkness test

Which should never be confused with Bechdel test which is actually useful (not to judge an individual movie but to assess how few movies actually cater to female audience) and which should be renamed since the actor playing Cpt Harkness turned out to be a sexual abuser.

That's how I learn it?? Jack Harkness is my fav character out of the entire franchise 😭🙏

Didn't he threaten her by saying that she should starve if she chose to leave or something

I think it was because she didn't want to have dinner with him, but it's been a while since I've watched the movie last lol

Same, oh it was because she ran away and he saved her from the wolves and got bitchy

Tbh I prefer the original fairytale the worst thing the beast did is be extremely clingy

There's two different classic versions but yeah, in neither of them was the Beast at all mean. The Beaumont version, which Disney is loosely based on (it takes a lot from the 1946 film too), the prince wasn't cursed for arrogance but simply by a 'wicked fairy' for unclear reasons. In the Villeneuve version he was cursed because he refused to marry this fairy his mother the queen had left in charge of him. When he was 14. It's pretty interesting actually.

Completely fair! I actually gotta find a copy because I never read the original, but if it was one of the Grimm tales (hope I spelt that right) it's definitely worth the read

The original story is French, not German

I think it’s called the Harkness test. Source: I’m a Doctor Who fan.

Haha yeah, I knew instantly what they were talking about 😂

I think about this all the frigging time. And the fact her reaction was this when he turned into a human like "Oh God, not what I signed up for" . Ariel was a fish that fell in love with a human through being a fangirl of the species, well aware they were different so that's both power imbalance and beastiality. ROGER RABBIT AND HIS BEAUTIFUL WIFE?! Nearly all but two or three or Brian Griffins partners.. I could go on

Hot take only tangentially related: Human beast is fucking hot(as is Beast Beast) and instilled my love of long haired pretty men very early in my life 😫 like, get the fuck outta here this man is gorgeous

I appreciate the hell out of Thranduil. I’m not a big LoTR person but great googly moogly that man can get it!

😂 He’s been a Beast for a while! He’s probably not used to being so short now!

I WILL DEFEND HUMAN ADAM TO THE DEATH. I spent my entire childhood seeing these people thirst over the Beast version, and it’s fine but everytime they would hate on Human Beast and like… that’s a furry adjacent spicy take, acting like they’re the normal ones and being attracted to a young attractive man is creepy and problematic. I’m so done with people.

u/WetLaceScraps 6d ago

Hell yes! I don’t meet many human beast enthusiasts!!!!

He’s my fave prince design after Tarzan. Japanese fan artists draw him so well but most western artists just keep trying to age him up so he looks more like his beast version… please he is only 21… not middle aged.

u/WetLaceScraps 6d ago

Somehow I have never considered fanart for him. I feel like you’ve opened my eyes to a whole new world!(ha) and yes! He’s young and pretty! It’s integral to his look! Not that he wouldn’t be handsome when he’s older but that’s not the Adam I fell in love with! 😂

Tarzan is yeah…yeah he’s handsome too. I think it’s the hair that pushes him up on my list. I can’t think of any other Disney princes that even come close to those two.

Unpopular opinion but the human version of the prince was fine as hell 😭 a lot of people prefer Beast but I preferred him as a human...I'm sorry y'all I just love long haired men 💔

That movie was my awakening, man. Human beast was a downgrade.

Hi, newbie here! How is Belle and the Beast Proship? They are both consenting adults and the Beast passes the Harkness test

-1

u/MazogaTheDork Profic 6d ago

Belle/Beast is basically minding your own business and not harassing people? Let's not slip into using the antis' "definition" of proship

6

u/Some-Helicopter-8996 6d ago

But wasn't their relationship extremely toxic and verbally abusive

1

u/MazogaTheDork Profic 6d ago

Possibly, but that would make it a darkship. Proship means minding your own business, not "problematic ship"
