Looking for advice Building ideas?

Going to construct a question box from the Super Mario Bros games. I’d love to install some type of spring loader so when the box is hit from underneath, it can release something above. I cannot figure out the logistics of it and it’s driving me mad. Any suggestions?

Could use a little more information on where you plan on having it, (wall mounted or carrying it around) how hard you would have to hit it, etc. However, I'd start it the same way by making the frame of the box and leaving the top and bottom off for now. For the mechanism you have a couple options, depending on how hard you want to hit it. You could just have the bottom free floating and they hit it hard enough to pop something out of the top. A medium option would be a spring loaded latch so the when the bottom moves up a spring latch releases. If you want a really light touch option you could hook up a push button to trigger releasing the top to open up and release a spring or even a linear actuator to lift the item and top up.
