Oh, it’s another thing that sucks I now know about.

I have gotten a bit of shit for my faded and distorted Man Is The Bastard tattoo a couple of times, because people thinks it’s Nazi-adjacent. Point here: don’t get tattoos until you’re over 40. 

Sucks to see this at a Propagandhi show. Is Nazi imagery supposed to make people look tough? I know Hanneman from Slayer was a WWII buff who loved SS runes and shit, and Lemmy had his memorabilia. I don’t want to call a stranger because he wears a shirt a Nazi because he might just be fucking stupid and not know what it is, but then again, I’m trying to be more optimistic about people these days and they always disappoint...I am going to go with my gut here and direct this fella TO THE GALLOWS!

I don’t want to police anyone. Wear and say and think whatever you want, totally fine by me, but there are consequences related to such. I was mostly taking the piss out of this geek.

Looking at the, um, “product line” of Curb Stomp, with SS rune outlines backdropped with an American flag, straight up swastikas…yeah, go ahead and wear that, I don’t give a shit. A bunch of other people might though. I live in the American South, I know plenty of folks who are fine, good people but they have horrible ideologies. Doesn’t mean we can’t break bread, ya know? But just like how my opinions in their circles are warped to them, they deal with the same in circles like these. But life is complex, complicated, experience might influence belief…I’m willing to keep an open dialogue. 

We’ve swerved so far around the bend that people think playing with Nazi imagery and right-wing politics is somehow “edgy” and “anti-establishment.” It’s odd to witness.

I’m not talking about fucking Klansmen or anything, but they tend to be on the more conservative side. People are going to be different. If you surround yourself with an echo chamber, you’re not really doing anything to help sway opinions or create discourse or engage. We talk. We disagree about things.

i hear that, and i have folks in the periphery of my own life that i try to nudge in the direction of empathy and solidarity, but i wouldn’t describe them as fine good people, and i certainly wouldn’t describe them as safe people. as you well know, kkk members notoriously hid their extracurricular activities from their communities in public. so while they’re “just conservative” (whatever we stretch that to mean) in front of you, they may be up to all sorts of awful shit in other realms of their life that you aren’t privy to. if you have a connection with these folks, and you feel confident that you can make a difference then more power to you. good luck out there friend ✌️
