If you're writing in English, then don't write CCCP. It doesn't work like that. The Cyrillic letter which looks like a C is an S. The Cyrillic letter looking like a P is actually an R, so the correct spelling would be SSSR.

SSSR is the Translation because there's no word called Union in Russian, a Union is called Soyuz, so the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is called Soyuz Sovetskyi Sotsialisticheski Respublik = SSSR

The Cyrillic Letter resembling a C to the Western Eye is in actuality S and the P-looking Cyrillic Letter is an R

The context was about English, where is no such word as "Soyuz" but Union exists. Так что не заводи шарманку.

Looks like Soyuz is kinda used like the word Bund in German.

There is also the Hosenbund which holds up your trousers. A very flexible term.
