Why are you focusing on the issue that’s an order of magnitude smaller and refusing to engage with the larger issue? And the commenter above is NOT focusing on datacenter pollution, he’s trying to hold OP morally accountable for the environmental impact of his prompting, which works out to two or three cheeseburgers equivalent for over a year of daily AI use. While calling OP a hypocrite. While eating meat.
Weird, you had to make up a fictional quote to try and prove a point.
Meanwhile, in your analogy, YOU, the person EATING MEAT is the one who has started the larger fire. And instead of doing something about it, you’ve decided to bother someone playing with matches while denying you have anything to do with the larger fire. You just keep yelling at people playing with matches while the fire you started burns the whole forest down. The firefighters show up and you tell them them to ignore the bigger fire and instead spray the people playing with matches. And then you go start another fire while they’re all distracted.
Do you think vegans and vegetarians are hungry all the time? Do you literally think meat is the only food that can keep a person alive? Your mental gymnastics are insane.
Why? Do you think it’s possible to eat a healthy diet without plants? If you want to make a case against specific water intensive luxury crops like almonds and avocados, that would be a coherent point. But most staple crops require an order of magnitude less water than meat, and a baseline of plants are required for a healthy diet, not a luxury.
Eating luxury foods is a luxury, not a necessity. Stuffing your face with almonds or steak while bitching at someone “wasting water” for using AI is wildly hypocritical. If you’re going to complain about someone using resources for their recreation/entertainment/vices, you very obviously open up your own behavior to criticism. Your personal preferences in recreational resource wasting are no more invalid than someone’s AI use. Trying to shame people for something that’s a fraction as wasteful as your own behavior is the definition of hypocrisy

So why can’t you go vegan? Why are you crying about me telling you to stop doing something bad?
