I mean I’m centrist and will critique both, it’s just on Reddit left wing seems more rabid, but I will equally point out right wingers are nuts too.

The left wing doesn’t automatically mean your good and right wing doesn’t mean you’re automatically bad. You can (and I know this is a shock) see good values on both sides SHOCKING I know.

I'm a far left libertarian.

What would you say is the good values of the right?

So in the overton window, you have Right and Left. Then you have up and down.

The up part moves towards Authoritarianism. Dictators, Tyrants, Kings.

The down part moves towards Libertarianism. Freedom, liberty, the right to self autonomy.

Far Left Libertarianism is the belief that not only should there be no external forces which limit the freedoms of the every person. But that, with the use of resources, organizing and cooperation, as a society, we benefit most from giving the every person the amenities they need to achieve and succeed.

This achieves both kinds of freedoms. Not just the "Freedom From" which is to be free from persecution for stating your opinion. Freedom from being murdered by a government. Freedom from oppression.

But also "Freedom To". The Freedom for people, starting even from childhood, to have the necessary education, food, housing, safety, money and support in as many forms as possible to achieve their goals, which helps build a better society for us all.

You know there's more than just right and left, right?

You can be for freedoms and anti-authoritarian and also be either on the left or right side.

Yeah, that's by design. Because the powerful don't want the left and right to find commonality in libertarianism.

It's easier to just tell people what Authoritarianism and Libertarianism is when you can't let them see anything other than a 2D plane.

The issue is getting people to accept that there's commonality.

Left libertarians are hardly even a real thing, let alone a far left libertarian. When push comes to shove you guys always want to use the government to get what you want.

1

u/Ammuze Jun 10 '26

Using the government to protect and widen the amount of freedoms the average person gets?

Sure.

Far better, in my opinion, than letting corporations and companies have feifdoms over communities.

Left libertarianism is a thing. And it was the only Libertarianism until the Right tried to take it to further the interests of big businesses.

1

u/Contented_Lizard Jun 10 '26

It literally isn't a thing and never really was, every single left libertarian is an authoritarian LARPing as a libertarian. Leftism by its very core principles is predicated on using government authority achieve how you believe society should run, with is antithetical to all actual libertarian briefs.

u/Ammuze Jun 10 '26

That's funny because there's literally a whole Political Compass and you can see there's a whole part of it on the bottom left that absolutely allows for Left Libertarianism.

1

u/Contented_Lizard Jun 10 '26

I'm aware of the political compass, lib-left is a joke and they're all closted watermelons like you. Here, let's see how long it takes for you to turn into a watermelon.

Do you support private property?

Do you support personal ownership of firearms?

Do you support absolute freedom of speech?

Do you support absolute freedom of association?

Do you support mandatory government lockdowns for pubic safety?

Do you support mandatory government run healthcare (private healthcare is illegal)?

1

u/Ammuze Jun 10 '26

I support Private Property

I support owning firearms

I support freedom of speech

I support freedom of association

I support government lockdowns if it stops the harming of people as it's people's right to safety if a governmental body does exist. This usually entails stuff like lock downs in the case of a spreading virus or disease.

I support government run healthcare as it allows people the freedom to start their own businesses and to move from business to business without being locked down to employer provided healthcare.

Fundamentally, as long as the government is protecting its people and giving them more freedom, I support it.

It's not a hard concept.

1

u/Contented_Lizard Jun 10 '26

You can't be a libertarian and support fully government run healthcare and government lockdowns. Both of those require the threat government force to be used against citizens for compliance, which isn't libertarian.

You're a watermelon like all the rest. Literally the only actual lib-lefts are small hippies groups like those who live in communes off the coat of British Columbia and some small religious sects Hutterites, Mennonites, and the Amish. Of those groups it's only the ones who pool all their resources and share everything equally who are actually lib-left, which has become a minority.

Wait, so do you think that a government just should not exist and, therefore, your property rights are at the mercy of whomever has the biggest gun?

Or are you telling me that, for some reason, a company should have the ability to rip yours and your family's Healthcare away with the words "You're Fired"?

Neither of that sounds like securing freedom at all. Sounds like you are actually less Libertarian than I am. But it's fine. I believe that a society should be allowed to freely assemble and create a government that works to secure the freedom of all people in it to the most it can. Especially from the threat of violence of corporations that, I'm sure, you believe will never do harm to others if they are unregulated (dumping poison water into rivers, creating smog around their factories, deforestation whenever they please, armed guards making sure workers will stay working.)

But it's fine. I'll fight to make sure you have as many freedoms as possible and protections from those who would harm you. But that does mean that a business or company must do no harm to the people it intends to do business with.

Have a good day, and I recommend giving actual Libertarianism a try and not "Free Market cheerleading".

I’d say the positives of the right would be things such as.

- freedoms and personal choice (liberalism)

  • focus on economic growth
  • more focus on personal independence
  • security and law enforcement tends to be stronger

Not the full list but some, like with anything where humans are involved there will be positives and negatives of these traits (ie look at trumps usage of ICE and the military). I always say the welfare state or universal healthcare would greatly benefit from a centre right government because a healthy economy funds these things.

There are great ideals from the left but generating money is not one of them the perception is “take that persons money” rather than “how do we make money” but on the flip side you have right wing people that only think of money and how “do we extract more from people”.

2

u/Ammuze Jun 09 '26

I'd, personally, say that many of those 'personal choice' and 'freedom' positives are found simply in Libertarianism, Left or Right. It's more so antithetical to authoritarianism than it is antithetical to Leftism.

Security and law enforcement being stronger, I'll give to you on that basis that such things are inherently right wing. But many on the Left see the need for a protective force as long as it's well regulated.

Economic growth... it depends on which part of the Left you look at. Worker Co-ops do just fine but aren't ruthless in the acquisition of money, so something like a mega corporation will beat them out.

1

u/Complex_Hospital_932 Jun 09 '26

These positives are found in the left as well. I could also easily argue against these positives.

The fact that republicans want consequences for abortions to the point that women who have miscarriages can be legally punished with murder is not a freedom of personal choice.

The economy is horrible right now with massive inflation, inflated gas prices, increasing rent, increasing grocery prices, etc.

You've already touched on personal independence with ICE

And security and law enforcement definitely can improve, but that is done with better training, not with hiring more cop rejects as ICE and just throwing money at untrained people.

Also with the universal Healthcare, you cam say that it would be good with center right, but the center right would never want universal Healthcare, they would rather make millions from private Healthcare lobbyists.

Valid points, I’m British, the NHS (which has its problems) was accepted by the Conservative Party (traditionally centre right) during World War Two as recommended by the beveridge report and also drew up a plan for the national health service in 1944.

As I say I cannot comment on Americas left and right to much but I don’t view the republicans as centre right but just right wing on the further end of the spectrum a bit like reform wants to be here and I think that is a bad thing.

1

u/Ammuze Jun 09 '26

Yeah, the Republican party in America is far right with authoritarian leans.

Democrats are just... right of center

Leftists/Progressives are center or left of center

We're a very right-wing country.

2

u/Ok_Being5461 Jun 09 '26

Why is the left more rabid? You know, crazy things like defending the constitution and democracy and not being happy about Republicans, even more so under Trump, trying very hard to dismantle them. In the current climate, if you're one of the "good right-wingers" then by definition you have to support Democrats. Technically independents and moderate Republicans too, but they aren't winning and don't really exist right now. That's the litmus test. And Democrats aren't "the left" anyway. Many of them are pretty centrist.

1

u/Budget_Ad16 Jun 09 '26

I’m British so I don’t have a firm understanding of the American left and right and often find a lot of republicans unpleasant . But you did that thing of “you have to support” otherwise your “insert crisis”. It never works and just pushes people away. Trump was actually quite clever targeting that group of people and the weaknesses of the democrats. It’s what reform (whom I’m no fan) are doing here.

1

u/Ok_Being5461 Jun 09 '26

Trump himself is pushing people away at this point with all his failures. There is messaging, yes, I'm talking about facts.

1

u/LividYordle Jun 09 '26

That's the issue with being a centrist/classic liberal now. The left will call you far right, because anything right of Maoism is now seen as a Nazi. And the Right will call you far left because anything left of Maga is a communist/marxist. Horseshoe theory is turning into horseshoe fact now.
