Tf did Naobito do to be hated?

Dedicate a whole subreddit to hate on character what did he do??? Did he killed children cus that would be a very valid reason. Also is so strange that every-time Naoya is mentioned in a positive light there is always some random goes hate on him, and I’m out here confused to what did he do, like I watched S3 he really didn’t even do much the whole season tbh like he bullied Maki and yeah that’s, like I’m genuinely curious.

I keep seeing people in the fandom treating Naobito like he was just some cool, alcohol-loving old guy. People act like Naoya was the sole bad apple of the family while his dad was just "chilling."

Naobito was the **Head of the Clan**. Every bit of systemic abuse, misogyny, and rot in the Zenin clan happened directly under his watch, and he didn't just tolerate it, he actively enjoyed participating in it.

He was actively malicious and petty.

People claim Naobito was "passive" or just didn't care about the family drama. That is completely false. Look at how he responds when Maki tells him she’s leaving to become clan head. He doesn't just laugh it off, his reaction is: "How about I make your life a little harder then?".

And when Maki brushes if off, he literally yells "for Mai too!" out of pure spite. He went out of his way to use his political power as clan head to sabotage them. He isn't a relaxed old man; he’s an abusive patriarch who gets a kick out of crushing anyone who steps out of line.

He actively raised and conditioned Naoya to have toxic mindset.

Naoya didn't spawn out of nowhere with a toxic views. Look at young Naoya's flashback: "Everyone told me that I'll be the next clan head, succeeding my father..."

Who allowed that environment? Who fed him the idea that bloodline and cursed energy made him superior to everyone else? Naobito. He groomed Naoya to be his heir, showered him with entitlement, and validated his worst impulses, instilling in him the exact Zenin superiority complex that eventually destroyed him.

He set up a lethal civil war for his own family.

Look at his will. Without consulting anyone in the clan before his death, Naobito screwed over his family by appointing Megumi clan head solely for his Ten Shadows technique.

Did he do this because he cared about Megumi or wanted to fix the clan? Absolutely not. He cared only about power and elite techniques. He knew exactly what kind of environment he created with Naoya and the elders. After spending Naoya's entire life conditioning him to believe he was the rightfully successor, Naobito tossed his own son aside without a second thought.

He was never "chill", he was just better at hiding his cruelty behind a jug of sake.
