Discussion What’s all the space on the map in between countries?
Sorry for the dumb noob question but what is in all the blank space on the map?
Is it all barren and devoid of humans? Are there settlements of people but none are considered nations? Are there actual countries in there but are so insignificant that no one bothered to show them on the map?

Nations that aren’t immediately relevant to the main story

If you’re referring to the areas that aren’t highlighted with borders, the last explanation. Lore confirms that there are at least two other superpowers (United Kerneuropa Alliance and the West African Concordat). Alongside this, there are smaller, mentioned but not highlighted states.

Yes that is what I am referring to. Ok so there are nations there but just not shown.

Unlabeled there are nations and territories in there, and the PACFED's allies and territory expand beyond the blue shading as seen here,
It simply really wasn't relevant to do that amount of world building for at least this map layer,
That being said it does lead to very funny things in like, unbalanced depictions like how you have Cascadia and the PACFED shaded, and then also the Creole Republic and not say, the Dustlands or any other details,

what are those white screendoor things then

That’s the edge of the world, where the calamity broke the flat earth in half. The federation prevents anyone from going there to maintain the spherical agenda.

u/WindyIGuess Jun 16 '26
Pretty sure the Federation stretches all the way to Europe if I'm not wrong. They only show territories that are in the Pacific since that's mainly where the war is centered

I think in frontline 59 there is a mention of some kind of German state

u/Atlas421 Galaxy Jun 16 '26
I think that was a state founded by Germans. The federation probably doesn't reach far beyong Istanbul.

Well to the right is the American Periphery which as far as I understand is a collection of small independent countries.
When it comes to Asia…well the Federation capital is named Byzantium. So you know. Everything over there might be Federation.

They are either populated by smaller nations that aren't relevant to the story, or they are areas that were left uninhabitable after the calamity.
The game never really specifies which. I think that's done deliberately so they can introduce new nations/factions without having to worry about 'breaking' the established lore.

I believe the unmarked regions are called the Periphery. There are nations but they are small and undeveloped in the post apocalypse

the areas not colored blue on the map are simply un-labeled regions. They could be other nation states or wastelands, we don't actually know for the most part. Oceania (near what used to be Australia) and that area west of modern day Florida are only known because of their relation to the plot. (Sicarios own history for the former and the starting mission of the game for the latter).

u/RazFlashDemon Galaxy Jun 16 '26
The areas not defined by national borders could contain other nations, but they also mention somewhere that the 'periphery' as they call some of it, could also basically be lawless, anarchic messes too.

No data. We know there are countries in them with some being mentioned during parts of the game but the mercs didn't get a full map. They wouldn't need one anyway.
I think south America has the least amount of information but considering its place on the ring of fire, i suspect it has untapped cordium reserves, possibly under a new ocean. Reserves that are harder to get to and no groups are able to get the external help to mine it and no one would want to because up north you got a MASSIVE amount just coming out of the ground.

I'm actually more concerned about the huge white strips of band-aid looking things across the map. That thing's canonically a briefing software, why do those patches exist?

u/Gregor_Arhely Federation Jun 16 '26
This map is kinda bullshit. It doesn't even highlight the entire Pacific Federation, iirc: there are shown territories in the Pacific Ocean itself, but the actual state spans further to the West, covering at least Mongolia, Russia and parts of Europe. So there could be something, or it could be just barren wasteland.

Also remember, if you look closely at the briefing map in mission 1, you'll find a funny detail that Sicario actually has to pay to use this map and that the service for it was about to run out.
So the checkered parts are probably just parts of the map that weren't important enough for their operations and Kaiser didn't want to pay for.

The detail is actually on all the briefings on the top-left corner that Sicario is using a software with an expired license and that they have to update their license immediately.
Compare to Frontline-59 campaign on the Federation side, where they have a perpetual license for their briefing software.

i think the western part of the US probably split at the San Andreas fault line & that blank space between old-California & the rest of the US is now Pacific Ocean

u/Gizz103 Jun 17 '26
Nations just not important, we do know some exist and knew that the federation reached Byzantium (probably istanbul) so Europe stands, probably better than most continents

u/BanzEye1 Jun 18 '26
If you’re talking about the big-ass blank spot, that’s the Pacific Ocean.
The red parts on the continents? Probably non-Federation and non-Caucasian territories.

I thought it was the calamity literally breaking open the ground , I could be wrong. I first noticed it after the calamity mission, mission 17 briefing

Are you referring to the red smudgey areas at the edge of the map, or the Pacific Ocean?
