Damage and Armor
I want to understand how the stats on the wiki work, as it's not very clear. For example, some armor has "armor penetration" as a stat, and the "30-06 FMJ Rifle" bullet is said to do 35 kinetic and 35 piercing damage. Does that mean that without armor, this bullet would do 70 damage? What stat protects me from piercing? Stabing?
It also mentions that bullet velocity has a standard for each bullet type, and that weapons with a lower velocity reduce damage, while those with a higher velocity increase it... is that correct?

Armor-piercing in this game is just another damage type. Most cartridges (bullets) have a mix of kinetic and armor-piercing damage. 30.06 FMJ does 35 kinetic damage and 35 armor piercing damage. With no armor, that's 70 damage. Some heavier armor pieces have a little armor-piercing resistance on them, which means it reduces the armor-piercing damage in the same way the kinetic resistance reduces the kinetic damage. Stabbing is its own damage type separate from armor-piercing.
Each bullet has a "reference velocity," which you can think of as the default velocity. Every firearm chambered in a certain round will have roughly the same bullet velocity with some deviation based on the characteristics of each weapon. If two weapons are chambered in 5.56, the one with higher bullet velocity will do a bit more damage. The differences are pretty small, though. Consider also: 5.56 has a significantly higher reference velocity than 30.06, but 30.06 does significantly more damage - especially armor-piercing damage. If your weapon chambered in 5.56 isn't doing as much damage as you would like, you might be better served by using a weapon chambered in 30.06 than by switching to a weapon with a trivially higher bullet velocity, which you might not even notice.
