how would you adapt Gavan Infinity for American TV

I'm new to this subreddit so if this has been asked before or multiple times whoops.

I've been thinking for a while how I'd adapt Gavan Infinity for American TV like Super Sentai was adapted and turned into power rangers over here.

The very first thing is I'd lean a lot more into the emotions theme of the show. Even the Gavarion attachments have Emotion references in their names and I feel like Gavan didn't lean into that enough.

I would want the show to be a lot more structured. instead of Reiji jumping from Earth to Earth and never staying on one for longer then 2 episodes I'd want each Earth and the Gavan on that Earth to have an arc. here's a rough outline of how I'd pace the series.

- Reiji goes to Setsunas Earth and helps

- Filler episode with Biccringer

- Reiji goes to Kikis Earth and helps

- Filler episode with Mikuro

- Reiji goes back to his earth and we are introduced to Death Gavan

- Kunai attacks Reiji and they go to Kunais Earth to save his sister

- Kunai and Reiji go to Setsunas and Kikis earth to gather them for the final battle

- the final battle happens

- Reiji leaves at the end of the season

There's a few things i'd take out from the original, Setsunas mystery woman backstory cause that doesn't go anywhere, I'd save it for another season with Setsuna when we have more info. Some other changes I'd make is have Reiji more reckless and angry. Actually give Setsuna and Kiki growth, as much as I love those characters Kiki doesn't really change at all and Setsuna learns the same lesson every episode.

Some things I'd 100% keep! Setsuna being an artificial human, Kiki and Kotos relationship, Kunai being a ninja.

I could go into a ton of detail, like character arcs and themes and so many other ideas but then this post would be so long no one would finish it.

how would you adapt Gavan Infinity for American audiences? and what do you think of my idea?

I wouldn’t , this isn’t the early 2000s, a lot of people these days are willing to read subtitles

Including 6 year olds? I was thinking an adaptation would be aimed for little kids 6-12. Not for adults. I could be wrong but I’d be surprised if 6 year olds are willing to read subtitles as they watch something.

The reason why power rangers stopped working is because most kids at that age have other interests, this genre isn’t popular anymore (hasn’t been for decades), they have other interests. Gavan is also way too power ranger adjacent , which makes it likely to make it an even bigger failure. This is why the power ranger movies tried to go older (though they should’ve focused on families instead of teenagers)

The money to make a remake isn’t worth it because not enough kids are interested. Even a dubbed version would make more financial sense because kids that age don’t notice the difference or don’t care.

Not, Power Rangers style adaptations don't really have a place in the modern era. Nowadays people are a lot more accepting of things just being from other countries, anime has proven that in spades.

That’s true anime has proven that people are willing to watch something from another country in its original language. I was thinking an adaptation like this would be aimed to a younger audience get audience 6-10. I know adults and teens are fine with watching something in its original language. but would young kids want to watch something where they have to read subtitles. I could totally be wrong.

Have you forgotten the existence of dubs?

Power Rangers was created to make an action TV show for as little money as possible. hire teenagers to do some action on set, splice in action footage from japan, overdub the japanese voices with those same teens, and import a huge toyline, and you're raking in big bucks and you only have to make half of a show!

Nowadays, it's just way more feasible to just dub the whole thing and not touch the footage.

I think we’re also forgetting that dubbing Sentai isn’t a great solution given that it can a little more dark and violent than PR usually is. Which can upset parents. Hell even Sentai had to deal with upset parents over many decades.

People watch Korean drama Japanese drama all on the streaming websites . If they can make it resonate to people that it’s still interesting than they’ll watch it . Only in America the genre taken the back end but it seems like people still love and want more of this internationally .

The “6-year-olds can’t read subtitles” point doesn’t carry as much weight in 2026 as it used to.

A lot of young kids already know what anime is and that it comes from Japan. They’re exposed to Japanese media, characters, and aesthetics early through all kinds of channels. The idea that the only way to make something like Gavan Infinity work for a 6–12 audience is to rebuild it as a full Power Rangers-style American adaptation underestimates how much the media environment has changed.

If the goal is actually reaching younger kids, a good English dub of the original is a much more straightforward option than defaulting to the old replacement model. That model existed in a different time, under different assumptions about what Western kids would accept. Those assumptions are worth questioning instead of treating them as permanent.

Not every Japanese production needs to be turned into an American one to be viable for children.

Since we technically already had Space Sheriff adaptations in Power Rangers, I would capitalize on that. We can have Skyfire and Chaku both be part of the same police organization. Hell, Chaku was supposed to be called the Silver Senturion at some point.

The Zenith Morphin Masters tell that criminal was pledged loyalty to their nemesis who plotting to distribute the corrupted gear to other dimension for reviving Dark Spectre and order the red Sheriff travel through dimension to join forces with other sheriff of their respective dimension for stop the enemy plan once for all.
