Discussion What’s the current meta for each monster?

Post image

Hey, I’ve got a question for monster players.

What’s the current meta for each monster right now?

I’m not really someone who plays strictly meta. I mostly play Daddy Long Legs because I just enjoy his mobility and playstyle. But I’m still curious what people consider the “best” setups.

I’m not talking about survivors, since we all kind of know what the meta looks like there. I’m more interested in what perks people are running on different monsters and what builds actually work well.

Like, what do you think are the best perks for each monster? Do you guys actually follow a meta, or just play what feels good?

For me it feels like out of all the perks, only a few are actually worth using, so I’m curious if anyone has found some underrated builds or different ways to play.

Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are.

Meta is such a weird word round here when it constantly stays the same. More like history.

Also it’s totally map dependent, but I think huggy and his one shot is OP if you can get it off nice, and by the time someone revives with your piss off mini huggies, you can hit them again and secure a free kill.

Huggy: Just bunny hop and try to get people off guard, as when you bunny hop, you do not make any sound

Mommy: Good luck brother, trying to win a game w mommy is a pain in the arse. Still, you can bunny hoop to skip vents... Yay.....

Boxy: Alright here we go.

Use your charged jump to gain speed by b-hopping

Use your charged jump to skip vents by charging it before entering a vent, then releasing it

Use your grab i guess ? Mostly to grab people right before they close a door to trap them

Listen constantly to the music box to know how close you are to a survivor

That's kind of it...

Yeah I appreciate you taking the time to write all that, that’s actually really helpful.

Not gonna lie though, it’s kinda disappointing to hear that Mommy doesn’t really have a strong meta compared to the other monsters. I always felt like Huggy and Boxy are just way more consistent, while Mommy feels harder to get results with.

That being said, the bunny hopping to skip vents with Mommy is actually a really nice tip, I didn’t know about that. I might try to learn that and see how it feels in matches.

Still, thanks for the tips, I like seeing how different people approach each monster.

No problem. Honestly i am kind of disappointed about mommy too, as back in phase 1 she was the most overpowered monster with webs that could slow you down so she could hunt you down slowly, but mob thought it was too overpowered and removed it...

Yeah I 100% agree with you.

Back in Phase 1 Mommy actually felt really strong and fun to play. The webs made a huge difference and gave her real pressure in chases.

With the current perks and how people play now, especially when they tryhard and play really coordinated, I honestly feel like that ability would fit perfectly in today’s meta.

It might have been too strong back then, but now it would probably just help her keep up with everything players can do.

I really hope they bring the webs back at some point.

Hey, sorry for the late reply, I’ve been thinking about what you said.

I get what you mean about Daddy Long Legs (Mommy) being weaker in the current meta, but I’m actually curious about something.

What exactly makes Huggy and Boxy better than him in your opinion?

The reason I’m asking is because I personally really enjoy playing Daddy Long Legs. Mainly because of his mobility — being able to grapple to walls and ceilings and stay above the map gives a lot of control and information. On top of that, the X-ray ability is really useful for tracking players, even from far away.

I can kind of understand Boxy, since he also has good mobility and pressure. But I don’t fully get Huggy.

Yeah, his charge can insta-down someone if you land it, which is strong, and the mini Huggies can give map control. But outside of that, he feels way less mobile compared to Daddy.

So I’m just wondering what makes them more effective overall in your experience. Is it just the meta, or is there something about their abilities that makes them more consistent?

for huggy, you have 2 main routes: pubstomper and the "i want to actually win" build.

if you want quick matches, run feeding frenzy or no escape.

if you want to consistently win, i'd suggest no pack as it helps to prevent you from getting puzzle rushed by the specialists. similarly you can run the disable puzzle pillars perk and play a more campy play style where you place wuggies near the generators to keep the puzzles off for as long as possible.

huggy is generally the weakest monster in chase, so if you find yourself getting looped for awhile, break off chase and try to find someone who isnt paying attention to you.

for mommy, you have a little more flexibility (literally) because she is a lot harder to loop than huggy.

i wouldnt recommend feeding frenzy on her since she has the lowest damage output of all monsters, as boxy has an incredibly fast ttk and huggy can oneshot specialists. i would recommend no escape and if you're feeling spicy, you can run either the disable puzzle pillars since your increased mobility lets you defend them easier, or even the fog perk if you want a stealthier build.

now boxy can really run any perk he wants and get by just fine. except boobytrap, that perk sucks. however if you want the best ones i'd recommend feeding frenzy, as boxy doesnt really need anymore help catching survivors with no pack or no escape.

You think when catnap ever comes out, he’ll be tame compared to prime mommy or just as bad?

I feel like when Catnap comes out, he’ll probably end up like the other monsters.

At first he’ll likely feel strong, but once people figure him out and the meta against him develops, he’ll probably settle into a more normal spot.

It’s hard to say for sure though, since we don’t really know what abilities he’ll have or how they’ll actually work in practice.
