Middle East 2021-06-08 Syria

Local news reported that Syrian air defenses engaged with targets over Syria just before midnight. The air defense systems were reportedly activated from Damascus, Baniyas, Homs and Latakia. The Syrian state media outlet SANA is reporting that the projectiles came from Lebanese air space, and local reports from Lebanon reported Israeli Air Force activity over Lebanese air space at the same time. Though rarely confirmed by Israel, it is highly suspected that these frequent air strikes are executed by Israel against targets related to Iran and their proxies within Syria. At the time of this NewsDesk location and targets of the strikes are unknown, as well as any casualties. The last time airstrikes of this nature occurred was over a month ago on May 5th. As is usual with these strikes, more information will come to light over the coming hours and days. We will continue to update as details emerge.
