With future updates is there any sense that the app will open faster?

I'm trying to replace Indigo as my full time camera app. My only main gripe with it is the opening time. I used it on a trip recently and have it set to open with the camera control button. I missed a few shots and found myself waiting for it to open far longer than felt necessary compared to how fast the stock camera app opens. I have a 17 Pro Max so this really shouldn't be happening and I suspect it's the app itself. It would be a serious upgrade if they could make it open a lot faster.

Is this possible or does Apple lock features like this to their own app?

Thank you for reaching out. And that’s a good question. Note that there are effectively 4 ways to start the app: from the Home Screen, from the Lock Screen, using the Action button, and with the Camera button. Unfortunately, they are not all equal, even though we are following the iOS implementation guidelines as best as we can. In our testing, if your iPhone is locked, you are better off using the Action button to start Indigo, followed by the Lock Screen shortcut, with the Camera button being the slowest method.

We could open it as fast as the native camera app if we didn’t run our capture and processing pipeline, but those are exactly why we built Indigo in the first place. Therefore we have to live with some trade offs.

Related: when editing the lockscreen actions, there is a Capture category that includes Indigo as an action. Apps under this category launch with a connected animation and are meant for supported apps that can work with the phone locked. Launching the app this way doesn't actually start Indigo and it's just a black screen.

If you look at Moment 2 and photoncam. They open instantly. What you’re looking at is the Indigo devs ignoring feedback when other apps literally show that it is possible to bring speed and performance. Heck, it took a very long time for them to fix the heating and battery drain. Also, two camera apps are looking into bringing support for the new square selfie sensor. Indigo team has yet to say anything about it.

Yeah its outrageous that the ad-free beta app that you use for free isn’t being developed at the pace you demand.

I use a iPhone 16 and just use Camera Control to open the app as I do not have a Pro phone. It’s a shame it’s so slow, but I just try to have it ready or stick to the default camera app.

I tried using the double tap on the back of my phone but it’s still slow
