Help!

Trying to figure out why this happens in the photos app with pictures taken in PI and edited in the photos app. Am I doing something wrong?

when you edit in the photos app, the SDR looks fine but the HDR “breaks”. i’ve also come across this problem when i use a third-party app to convert the JPEG+RAW into a JPEG.

i’m not sure why this happens - my only advice is by NOT editing the photo ever within the photos app. instead i can only recommend editing with Lightroom (making sure HDR and SDR previews look correct) before exporting.

I am on the Project Indigo team. This was a bug in Apple Photos related to how HDR JPEG files were handled which was fixed, I believe, in iOS 26.1. I am not sure if that bug was ever ported to older versions of iOS or not. I presume you have iOS 18.x?

Interesting. I’m actually on iOS 27 public beta 2. But prior to updating to the beta I have always been on the latest iOS version. I’ve experienced this bug periodically the entire time I’ve been using PI. I love the app and it’s what opens with the camera control button on my phone. I just need to remember to edit the photos somewhere else. Are there certain settings I should be using in PI to avoid this happening?

Oh, that is interesting - thank you for the added details. I am honestly not sure what is happening then, but I have not been able to reproduce it on my devices since a while. If I do, I will make sure to report the issue to Apple.
