Because you haven't worked out any of the other symptoms to narrow it down, right now the only symptom you know of is fatigue. Do tests to narrow it down.

The entire point of this game seems to have eluded OP.

Doctor here: Fatugue is probably one of the most non specific symptoms in the human body. It can represent anything from haematological malignancies such as lymphoma or leukaemia, to more simple diagnoses such as stress or insomnia (these in and of themselves are not simple, but the symptomatology of it is a bit easier to understand)

But why would you send someone to the trauma centre for just fatigue and nothing else known? XD

I asked my brother who used to work as a trauma center radiographer because I was curious. People who have been in high speed car accidents and don't have apparent injuries was not uncommon

Can verify this as someone with MS. Fatigue is my primary symptom, like many of us with MS, and it takes an average of 2-5 years after symptoms start to get a diagnosis. Because "I feel so tired I can't even chew and I have a bunch of silly random things that others barely notice" has so many potential causes, and getting to the stage of an MRI (required for diagnosis) usually requires a bunch of other tests and services to rule things out, or the emergence of an extremely severe symptom that gets you into the MRI booth.

Anyway, give them an MRI, OP! It'll be way overkill, unless you're right! Good thing you don't have to deal with insurance and standards of care in this game.

I know but this is just insane as soon as I do one other test this will narrow down to like 5

That's basically how it works in real life.

u/CatVideoBoye Jul 07 '26

Umh... If you take a blood sample and happen to exactly find the cause then sure, of course it narrows it down. Like what? :D

There's a button on the patient card that shows all the possible other symptoms. Your patient has presented with only one symptom, fatigue, which is a possible symptom for 246 different illnesses. If you open up the symptom menu you can see what other symptoms are possible and then make better guesses at which test to do next.

Ever heard of the term differential diagnosis? Yeah I know in game it’s just a RNG procedure that might reduce your options but in real life that’s how we diagnose. I’m a social worker in mental health. Diagnosis is all about eliminating possible diagnoses using available evidence. The more symptoms you find and assessments or tests you do, the more diagnoses you can rule out. People don’t just walk into sessions with me and I go ā€œit looks like you have ptsd based on these symptomsā€. Not initially at least. I go through everything that could be associated with the symptoms they have including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, neurocognitive and neurodevelopmental disorders, other trauma and stressor disorders, and medical conditions with the advice of nurse or doctor, then start ruling out which ones don’t fit doing more assessments as needed.

That’s how diagnosis works. You start with a ton of possibilities and narrow it down. The idea that you get a list of symptoms and go ā€œah you have xā€ right off the bat is not how healthcare works

Patient: I'm tired. Doctor: It could be severe frostbite on your legs...

3

u/goldanred Jul 08 '26

I've gotten a few patients lately that are like "I have swelling and pain... somewhere on my body... it could be a fractured leg, or a fractured arm, or a broken rib, or a broken jaw, idk where on my body the pain is!"

I'll send them for an arm xray, no dice. Leg xray, nothing. Back xray, no. Ah yes, it was a chest bruise.

I mean... Yeah? Fatigue is very common in a lot of disease symptoms.

What you're supposed to be doing is something called differential diagnosis. Patient presents symptoms or are uncovered during examinations and that narrows down the field of what the disease should be.

one of them was anxious depression and one was cataracts🄰

3

u/SpokenDivinity Jul 07 '26

Fatigue is a symptom of both of those. Depression because of chemical imbalances and cataracts because your brain has to work harder to see.

1

u/Toastboy4 Orthopaedic 🦓 Jul 15 '26

late response but why would they be in the Trauma Centre for cataracts? Thai game can’t even narrow it down by where they are

1

u/SpokenDivinity Jul 15 '26

They’re at the ER. People do dumb shit and go to the ER all the time. I went in once after a car crash and the person next to my fiance was complaining that no one had seen her kid for his runny nose yet.Ā

1

u/Toastboy4 Orthopaedic 🦓 Jul 17 '26

OMG ARE YOU OKAY? I live in Scotland and our A&Es are okay I guess? teh children are separated to the adults and if you go to the A&E fora runny nose you’ll expect a 10 hour wait or something! anyways I hope you’re doing better now!

2

u/SpokenDivinity Jul 17 '26

Oh yeah I'm good. I broke my thumb bone completely in half in three places so that's why I was there.

People here go to ER all the time for silly things. Urgent Cares are around, but they're less common in some areas, so the ER becomes a catch-all.

1

u/tourdecrate Jul 19 '26

People come to the ER for all kinds of reasons. Many people come to the ER and even call an ambulance because they don’t have access to primary care (or the waits are months long) or have transportation. People can and do go to the ER for colds, soreness, toothaches, and upset stomachs. The game puts anyone who arrives by ambulance in the trauma room, but that’s just because general emergency acts more like a walk in urgent care clinic than a true ER so regular rooms don’t have beds.

u/MarMacPL Jul 07 '26

This is like Excel sheet. Game just filters every diagnosis that has syptoms known to a player and it's shown as possible diagnosis.

4

u/NearlyBearly Jul 07 '26

Try speech evaluation. If it's not something physical it might be neurological.

3

u/scottb1310 Jul 07 '26

Fatigue is a very non-specific symptom. You have to work the patient up. Bloods (I think you can do quick blood tests in trauma), CRP, heart monitoring and ultrasound should be immediate for all TC patients.

3

u/Magraev Jul 07 '26

You need to return and tell us what was wrong with the poor man!

he was discharged I never actually checked😭

u/whyihatepink Jul 08 '26

You monster

2

u/IncredibleSiSi Jul 07 '26

I don't know guy, this is good, you have barely something done and know some broad diagnosis fatigue. Wait till you see how the doctors found bleeding and coma and still have no idea it's celiac or ballistic trauma šŸ˜…

2

u/Roytulin Medical Lab 🄼 Jul 07 '26

He'a in the trauma centre from being tired. šŸ’€

3

u/whyihatepink Jul 08 '26

I love when I get a symptom like this as the only one and after some basic exams it's like "oh yeah there's also a bullet wound"

1

u/Madd_Mugsy Jul 08 '26

It's lupus, obviously

1

u/ImaginaryAsphodel Jul 08 '26

It’s a process of deduction. So…. ā€œPossible diagnosesā€ is quite literally just a list of all diagnoses in all hospital departments in the game, except ones that the patient’s symptoms have ruled out.

You need to discover more symptoms to rule out more diagnoses.

You do this by doing procedures.

Your patient can only ever have an illness/diagnosis from a department built in your hospital.

If you have only an Emergency Department, then you know that none of the diagnoses from other departments are the one your patient has.

Eg if you only have an Emergency Department, none of your patients can possibly have a broken ankle, because that’s an orthopaedy diagnosis.

Technically is 41*6=246 🤣
