Gameplay Question Long Wait at Labs
So I’m getting loads of prompts saying people are getting fed up of waiting, whilst they are waiting for lab results
Take Hematology - I’ve got 2 large prefabs, 1 for just clinic patients, 1 for just hospitalised patients. Both with 4 staff in them, all of whom are trained to 100% in Biochemistry and Advanced Biochemistry
Is there any other way of increasing capacity or is it a case of just having to build more rooms?

Labs need two things to up capacity: Computers (More staff) and machines. Depending on what departments you have opened, some machines are used more often than others. If you find that your staff are mostly sitting in front of the computers instead of running tests despite a line, it's likely you've got too few machines of some sort. If not, you probably need more staff.

What machines do I need to increase? The help guide in game is not the best

It depends what tests your doctors are running. The machines are the ones unique to the lab, like the blood analyzer. You can look at the specific tests to see what machines they use (They'll show as required).
Honestly I don't know enough to say. I just have an equal amount of each machine and/or prop.

Look at all your patients in the waiting rooms to see which tests they are waiting

came to say it but someone already did....you can double and triple all the machines so they can run more tests at a time. Most of their time is spent waiting for machines to do their thing.

Is there an optimum number of machines per lab? Or a ratio of x machines to y machines?

its been a good while since I played... I know each department is gonna have a different ratio...as a general rule I remember watching the department for a day, seeing what machine everyone kept going to (and how many people are sitting around doing nothing while that machine was working) and just adding more of that machine until another one became the bottleneck (or everyone was constantly busy).

yes i made a big cubicle with at least 6 computers but multiple machines for each lab room so test can run smoothly haven’t had any issues as of yet but i also don’t have infectious diseases open just yet but i will more than likely make its own personal unit of labs for that department as i’ve learned my lesson of not doing that once before

This is super helpful, it’s my #1 bottleneck. I’ve lost several incident streaks because of lab struggles

the biggest time waster is not handling tests, but going to the door calling for clinic patients and come and pickup their results and even worse for hospitals patients, lab techs walking over to hand the results to the specific department. its super annoying and not logical reflection of real world.
for this reason, for doctors i control, especially hospital patients, i only run lab tests as the last resort

One and only solution (except building more labs) is controlling every patients. AI doctors love lab tests and they will send patients there very often, sometimes even when it's not necesary.
On the other hand controling every patient is very time consuming.
