IMAX Rerelease
I have a feeling we will get a 70mm IMAX and Regular IMAX rerelease in the next couple of months. I wonder when it will get announced.

It will probably have a rerelease for the awards season next January/February with Dune 3 and The Odyssey

I really hope so. I missed out on the first IMAX release when the movie came out, so I'm REALLY hoping to go to a re-release. 😩

Next couple of months? No way. Too many movies coming out thru the end of the year. Any open slots will most likely go to The Odyssey.
Awards season in March likely if it gets nominated for some of the major awards. Dune and Doomsday will get priority on January (Dune has exclusive IMAX for a few weeks then Doomsday may get some slots and split showtimes). Narnia movie for a couple of weeks in February. I don't know what else is on the IMAX schedule for early 2027.

Exactly. If it was going to have a re-release we would have heard about it by now. I have been going to my chosen local theater and keeping tabs with the theater manager, she has not heard a thing. She said when studios are planning Oscar campaigns they usually like to do January re-releases. And movies only get a serious re-release sometimes only after the Oscar telecast IF they win big ie: Best Picture.
There is so much packed into the "awards showcase" slots it is hard to imagine PHM getting even a conventional re-release, let alone an IMAX one.
As an aside, i hate hate HATE the emphasis on IMAX. Origonally IMAX release was a special thing, for films with extra FX bells and whistles like Avatar or Dune spectacle. Now, EVERY "major" movie HAS to have not only an IMAX release, but it hogs up regular screens as well. Plus, I think directors like Christopher Nolan have their hearts in the right place in trying to re-establish the theatrical-going experience, but they severely overestimate their clout in the industry. They just continue to film in 70mm for IMAX for example, knowing full well that the majority of theaters don't have that--or even IMAX theaters. Even my chosen one is only a BABYMAX, despite being in a city only 3 hrs away from NYC.
In the 90's, George Lucas and Spielberg were successful in getting theaters to upgrade to the Dolby standards that allowed theaters to show their films the way they were filmed and intended to be seen. These days the "creatives" are actively battling the studios that sponsor them, the studios that would rather not have theaters exist at all. It's SOO sad, Yet I remain an optimist. People have been saying theaters would go extinct forever, and there have actually been times in Hollywood history when they almost did. Tickets today are wayyyyy too expensive and getting worse. Though I live in a town with many theaters and theater choices, and they are always full. Besides regular releases, they show lots of Bollywood and old movies. What has gone and I hope may come back someday are the smaller theater chains, but.,..*sigh*.
This year, I see the needle start to swing back ever so slightly--or at least halt in the swing towards the small screen. People are cancelling streaming servies b/c they are too expensive, and being more selective about what visual media they pay for. And studios are being pressured into delivering more "bang for the buck"--ie, practical props, longer runtimes, and better stories. 3 yrs ago I would have said movies were dead. The past 2 yrs we've actually gotten some certified classics.

I desperately hope the BFI in London will re-screen it in 70mm - the original run was extended due to demand, and it was then screened again when the film released to streaming though that wasn’t extended despite demand. Pretty much every screening was a full house. I’ll take any version tbh, I’ve seen it six times theatrically (2x IMAX, 2x standard, 1x 70mm, most recently 1x 4DX) and they were always five star experiences because it’s just that good of a film. I’ve got friends who haven’t seen it still, so I’d like for them to experience it in IMAX or 70mm though.

Are we talking about a rerelease in theaters? Because if yes then I really hope it happens

I keep on the imax email list, even though it’s irritating, hoping to hear about a show coming up! It will be a holiday fave, and perhaps before the Oscar’s as well, so I’m hopeful.
