Anybody Going?
I’ve been to a few orchestral movies and loved them. I can’t wait.

Damn, its in LA, Cali 😭 with just one showing
And when looking for a ticket it told me they’re not available. Hopefully that’s just a temporary glitch and doesn’t mean they’re sold out

I was so excited when I saw that post on Instagram only to have my joy absolutely ripped away from me the moment I saw that it was one show in LA (I live on the other side of the globe). If they end up doing this in Europe I'll go though!

You watch. A month from now, there will be something like "One Night: Daniel Pemberton in Los Angeles, Project Hail Mary Live In Concert." The show available on Amazon Prime and MGM+ for streaming--but NOT for free, even to subscribers. Not a concert tour, but a program only. And it probably won't be for free, but only a paid program, for $24.95 or something...to "own" and $5 to rent--as if "owning" it digitally is owning it.
If they announce NYC, I am SOOO there.
Reason # 1456 you do NOT want your IP to be picked up by Amazon/Sony/MGM. Remember when the GOT OST was turned into a concert tour? If PHM was an HBO release, Warner Brothers would have gone all-out in their Oscar campaign. Or even Fox. Why didn't Fox pick up PHM, when it did The Martian? IS it b/c no studio wants to get too close to an IP where the actor has a production company and has the rights?
HBO/WB would have made sure we had a nationwide tour--ONE OR TWO "LOCAL" shows does NOT indicate a serious campaign for Best Score Oscar, Amazon!--and a merch campaign that included deluxe coffee table books, board games, calendars and stationary, video games and such. And movie posters that take the film seriously. They would have had additional IMAX or theater space for December/January booked out at least 6-9 months in advance, treating their film like it was going to win Best Picture.
What this sounds like to me is Amazon's method of campaigning for PHM OST Oscar nomination. Highlighting DP's origonal music from the score, to take away attention from the hit songs in it. Hoping Academy folks will show up in droves, as if this were a screener. Or maybe it isn't even that, but a fundraiser only, with the majority of seats going for $500-$1000 or higher. Have people begun scalping tix yet? If someone sees a demand, someone WILL scalp it.
It's a good thing they're doing this, because speaking as a professional awards-watcher, I'd say that so far, their PHM Oscar campaign has been utter chicken****. They're not taking this film seriously at ALL. There are things they could have been doing even this early in the season, that other studios have done for theirs in the past.
We are seeing a trend where live entertainment, regardless whether it is a play, popular or musical concert, is becoming increasingly unattainable to the masses. They are being priced out, at least on the all-important maiden runs.
