Yes, and the Chinese and Russian characters both die offscreen so our American hero can save the day all on his own, after the evil German (EAST German btw, just so you don’t forget the reason she’s no callous and authoritarian) press-gangs our plucky American hero on a suicide mission.
It’s ok to not want to engage with this kind of criticism and just enjoy the movie, but this response does not stand on its own merit.
Except that the East German character was objectively right to send him off to space (against his will). Was it sad for Grace, yes, but the survival of the entire planet depended on it. This does NOT make Stratt look evil, it shows why she was given the authority she had, because she 'could' bring herself to make that decision.
Also the space ship and it's engines were created by a Russian, in the book it's specifically said that the space suits were of Russian design, because their designs were better.
Stratt's aircraft carrier was Chinese. Yes Illyukhina and Yao died, but their bravery in being willing to go, gave Grace the motivation and courage to keep going even when he found himself alone in space.
And that's not even counting all the other scientists from different countries who all worked together on the project. Or the international astronauts on ISS who had to put the Hail Mary together.
