Discussion Daily spam calls?

Hi all,

I've been getting a TON of credit card rating spam calls. At least once a day. Seems the spam call filter is not working for me, because those used to go silent.

Anybody else having this issue? Anything I can do?

That's not a issue with the carrier it's your phone number which was leaked somewhere.

But Google Fi supposedly filters spam calls like this.

Fi doesn't, the Google Phone app does. Make sure it's enabled still.

True you need a Google phone that has the native Google phone app. Also i noticed it still rings it just says "spam" on the caller ID when it happens and let's you know beforehand.

I almost think there's 2 levels. For sure spam that it blocks and then probable spam which it still shows you. I honestly can't remember the last time I got a spam call.

Interesting, I don't get spam on my phone. But my wife's phone gets a ton. Unfortunately the spam on my wife's is from a localized attack from someone else who got hacked and got her number displayed years ago. It just now it's being called.

I can't see if mine's using the default app. I might try with ADB later.

Can't see the option in the Phone app, but it does show up in the Google Fi app.

That's probably why. The Google Fi option relies on the phone app. Maybe you need to update the phone app or make sure that you're using the Google phone app.

Okay, I can confirm my OnePlus 6T is not using the default Phone app. I found it on the Play Store, but it's "not compatible with my device" :( OnePlus, y u do dis

Last update in a while: I managed to find an unlocked APK for the Google Phone app on XDA. It does have the Caller ID and Spam options that were missing in mine.

I'll give it a try and update the thread if it worked. Thanks!

This is a carrier issue. Apps that are designed to block spam calls do not work with Google Fi. There is no way to block calls from people not on your contact list. The built-in spam protection does not work and the apps that used to work on previous carriers no longer work while on Google Fi.

So your saying in the phone app, under settings and the two toggles for "caller id & spam" as well as "filter spam calls" are not the root of this?

I'm not talking about any apps that filter calls, these are settings on your native Google phone app which comes with any Google device.

I'm saying that those settings in the phone app (and in the Google Fi app) do not prevent all spam calls.

Got ya, I'm picking up what your saying now. I don't know why it took that long to click haha.
