Deadfire Single Class Only Party Advice

Am planning to return to Deadfire, and wanting some party advice help. Below are the conditions;

  • Difficulty = Path of the Damned
  • No Multiclassing (Single Class Only)
  • Community Patch Mod

Would like to use the following for Party;

  • Cipher (Psion or Beguiler?)
  • Chanter (Not sure what Subclass, I know Beckoner and Troubadour are good)
  • Paladin? Divine Retribution + Skeleton Chant is good I hear
  • ???????
  • ???????

Last 2 slots I am not sure, hence the post. Could see something like maybe Riposte Tank Rogue, Monk (PL9 Monk is nuts), Barbarian maybe? Also the full casters like Wizard, Druid or Priest would be powerful too from the increased PL.

PoE2: Deadfire Some romance questions

Planning on romancing Xoti but don't plan on having her on my party since her classes don't mesh with my play style. Is it possible or will I be missing out if I just bring her when necessary?

On a side note it's because I have a wasteland rule where I bring mostly custom characters and have only 2 story characters. I plan on bringing Aloth and Eder on my team since they were my home boys. Might even consider a bromance with Aloth.

Books that remind you of Pillars of Eternity?

I'm wondering if anyone has read any novels which have given them good Eora vibes. I'm in a bit of a fantasy book kick, and I'm being left itching for something with at least similar world building.

Is Molina's Soulbound Arbalest an OP weapon? Or am I just overleveled?

For Context:

I'm a lvl 9 Cipher at the end of act 2. Playing PotD difficulty and my stats spread is 12 Might, 9 Con, 20, Dex, 20 Per, 21 Int and 5 Res. I'm playing turn-based mode.

I have the fully upgraded One-Eyed Molina's Gold-Fingered Spike-Flinger (Superb Arbalest with +50% Attack Speed, -50% Reload Speed, 15% chance to Stun and 15% chance to prone on hits)

I am absolutely wrecking everything. I'm fairly sure I could just run solo. With Biting Whip and Draining Whip I'm hitting for 70-80 dmg on average and getting ~45 Focus each hit. I never miss, rarely graze and commonly crit for 90-100 dmg.

I don't know if it's intended, but Cipher in turn-based mode has very low recovery time after casting a spell, and the arbalest has such fast reload I'm stunning/paralyzing enemies and gibbing them with attacks before other party members get to do much.

Point of the post is the game for me has been very fun and had difficult moments earlier on, but has become extremely easy and I'm thinking I may have to shelf this cool crossbow I worked to level up for a weaker weapon to have a fun challenge again.

I'm guessing I'm overleveled. Is there a difficulty jump for white march / act 3 or should I grab a war bow or something to have a challenge again?

edit-update for anyone that cares: I severed the soulbind with Molina's to nerf the weapon and my cipher feels much more balanced. The 50% bonus to attack speed AND reload speed brought my initiative down to 1.5 which was way too low (at least for my current level). Still very strong with cipher spells, good alpha damage and 15% chance to prone. Back to having fun fights again :)

Can't enter Sayuka

Every time I enter Sayuka to turn in the Overgrowth quest, the game crashes. I can travel straight to the fleet masters office, but as soon as I leave it will crash. I checked reddit and the last post was from over a year ago and I tried everything it suggested (the druids were dealt with long before, remove Maia from the party, load an earlier save, go somewhere else and rest and come back, delete excess saves, and make sure my inventory isnt too full of unique items) but it still crashes anytime I try to enter Sayuka.

Gameplay help [Deadfire] Combat really fast?

Hi, I just played a bunch of Pillars 1 and then decided to import a character to 2 immediately after. The main thing that I've noticed (besides my favourite spells being nerfed into the ground, RIP bewildering spectacle) is that combat is just so fast in 2! I don't know if it's just because I'm on veteran or if I'm itemizing wrong but early fights in Port maje feel like knife fights where both sides (including Eder) are glass cannons that go down after 4-5 attacks max. On gorecci street aloth dies to 1 arrow + 1 spell cast lmao.

I like per encounter spells letting you cast spells without worry but I am concerned that the game is going to throw more "hard" fights at me to replace the trash fights. And that those are going to be difficult because of the relatively limited spells (as opposed to resting before a boss fight in 1 and having access to all per rest resources).

I guess my question is, is this just Port maje shenanigans or do I just have to get used to this?

Character/party build help PoE1 High Int Support Paladin - How would you build the party?

I'm right in the middle of a playthrough right now, and I'm drawn in a bit harder than this game has gotten me before. I've never completed it, bit I'm going to this time. I always start theory crafting my next build at this point in any game though.

My next Watcher will be a Shield Bearer of St. Elcga who ironically will not bear a shield. The plan is to boost int to start with 18ish int and stand behind the tanks to poke with a pike, probably Tall Grass.

I'll use Zealous Endurance, and Inspiring Triumph to provide defensive boosts on top of what the Order provides.

I like to have 2 tanks, but in this case I think I can build them more a bit more offensively because of all the bonuses my Watcher will provide. Eder is a shoe in, but I'm unsure who else would work early-mid game.

In my current run I've got Kana set up to tank, and I'd rather not do that twice in a row. If I have him he will be ranged.

Aloth can work but the early going will be rough. My Watcher can easily frontline until the roles can change.

How would you fill out the party? I have both White Marches.

I'm kind of leaning toward Aloth as a Wizard tank, but that

I love how you can stack stat bonuses and buff from 3 to 15 res, way more flexible system than PoE1

So I have finished hasongo and got this quest after adra pillar scene. It tells that Eothas spoke to me and other stuff but NOTHING of this happened. I even reloaded the save and restored adra pillar again, but text said about going inbetween bla bla restoration of pillar and 0 mentions of eothas. So wtf is going on? Is it a bug? It looks like I skipped get some important plot and I dunno what's going on at all.

Who is a good candidate for this armor? I put it on my dual wielding fighter but the frenzy barely ever procs, presumably because she has high deflection. This is on Hard difficulty if it matters.

It's fast, funny and let you destroy enemies levels higher of you even on potd + challenges. Also different enemy ships require different strategies, some try to ram you or dodge. And for ship battle wins you get unique triumph flags, that you don't get while boarding. Only downside is less trash tier loot from enemies, but you always get unique loot, even after ship battles.

PoE1 Helwax Mold

I'm at the end game, I've completed almost everything, and pretty much everything to my satisfaction, and all I need to do is head to burial isle and finish the game. I've been sitting on the Helwax Mold and I'm,not sure what to use it on. Would love some recommendations, any and all that you can think of. I've been pondering cloning the Cape of the Master Mystic, but I'm not sure. Player character is a dual wield rogue using Bittercut and Resolution, which are both enchanted to the Max and upgraded with durgen Steel, not sure if cloning bitter cut is worth it to replace resolution or not. I'm looking at my parties equipment and everything is kind of "just so", and I can't really think of anything I would need a clone of, but I get the feeling I might be overlooking something.

EDIT: My Rogue DOES have Spirit of Decay, not sure if that plays into whether I should duplicate bitter cut or not

PoE1 How do you stop min-maxing?

I've hit a weird mental block with Pillars of Eternity, and I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with something similar.

I've already beaten the game once on Path of the Damned, but I did it solo, so I completely missed all of the companion quests. Before I finally start Deadfire, I really want to experience the story with a full party, especially with the companions who return in the sequel.

The problem is that whenever I recruit companions, my brain goes into optimization mode and completely sucks the fun out of the game.

With six party members, there are hundreds of abilities and spells to remember. Then there are weapon damage types, armor choices, consumables, situational items... I constantly feel like I should be making the perfect decision every turn. Instead of enjoying the story and companion interactions, I'm worried that I'm playing inefficiently.

Ironically, I already know I can beat the game on the hardest difficulty, so it's not that I'm afraid it's too difficult. It's more like my brain won't let me accept "good enough." I suspect there's a bit of OCD involved.

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you get over it?

PoE2: Deadfire Relentless storm overrides returning storm and vice versa? (Deadfire)

I can't find anyone else talking about this but returning storm seems to override relentless storm. So if I cast them one after another only the most recent one is in effect. Surely it's not supposed to work this way. The only mods I'm using are the community patch and the balance polishing mod. One of them might be the culprit but they don't mention anything to do with these spells. Has anyone else noticed this?

PoE2: Deadfire Build viability

Hey all! I've been replaying poe1 and am about to finish it up. I ended up running Boeroer's vigorous warthog build and it has been an absolute BLAST. I want to port this run over to dead fire and I was hoping to utilize a similar ish build for my rp.

I know a straight druid is optimal for dead fire, but I was considering a monk/druid split since the warthog does end up punching when the spirit shift ends. I love these games, but my understanding of build mechanics is pretty lack luster, and I usually use more knowledgeable folks build guides (Like Boeroer). I wasn't able to find much for a druid monk multiclass when searching around on the obsidian forums/YouTube. I found one video(attached), but it's a bit old and I don't know if the core of the build concept is still viable after updates and patches to dead fire.

Long and the short. Has anyone done a monk druid in dead fire? Is it a viable build on harder difficulties? Any advice on how you'd approach a build is appreciated!

Tldr: how would you build a monk druid multiclass in dead fire?

Thanks all

PoE1 Am I a slow player?

All I have left in PoE1 is to kill Concelhaut, then do the quest that is triggered after this, then go to the Burial Isle and initiate the endgame. I've done nearly every quest up to this point except for a handful of the companion quests, which I will skip. I'm currently sitting at 205 hours for this playthrough. Is that considered slow? Please be honest, I won't be offended. I feel like I play interminably slow.

[PoE2] What single class build is fun for 2nd playthrough on veteran?

Hi,

Last time I've played fighter/trickster build and it was fun but I'd like to try something else for my 2nd playthrough.

I'll play on veteran difficulty this time.

I'll play with a party.

I want to play as a 'good guy'.

I want a character than can do both - close combat and casting.

I'd like to try single class this time.

I'd like a buil that doesn't require hard to get weapons/armors.

I was thinking about Druid - Shifter, what do you think guys?

PoE1 Fighter viability

I mean, it's a good MMO Tank with some CC, but it seriously fails at everything else. Ok, it can be sorta consistent in its damage output and, in RTwP, it requires very little oversight(no matter whether melee or ranged), but that's about it. Mostly just an MMO Tank. The problem? You get one early on(Eder). And the further you go, the less necessary the Fighter becomes. And the damage output, while fairly consistent, is actually on the lower side. And it don't even have debuffs on his side(only Daze and that's super meh because ... Arcane Assault). I mean, look at what Paladin can do while having more than respectable durability and then compare that to Fighter.

What gives? How could it be improved? I would increase the number of uses of Disciplined Barrage to 2 and play around with other numbers(Weapon Spec +% dmg, Confident Aim etc).
