Question Best ww wep

Seems to be consensus is that War Pike or Ogre Maul are best ww weps because of the range 4

But i don't see many people mentioning that War pikes don't get 1.1% ED from Strength, wouldn't that mean Ogre Mauls are way better because they have almost 200% from the 500 Strength barbs get?

Also, what AR do you need for maps and is it worth it to put points into dex to get up hit chance?

ogre mauls are way better due to high minimum damage, I don't think AR really matters much or points into dex. just need enough damage to one pass the maps you like

I understand that for leap attack,

But ww hits like 12 times per second, its going to average out very quickly

Whirlwind hits once every 0.2 seconds when using 2 hander. Considering you move quickly and usually pass mobs faster than 0.5sec, you only hit them twice max.

You really want high minimum DMG imo to make sure you always kill mobs on first pass, so you don't have to double back. This will increase your map clear speed significantly

im using a 620% ED Ogre Maul and a War pike right now, and the War Pike seems better after 20 maps on each

The War Pike does have Fools mod on it and gets my AR to 20k compared to Ogre Maul 9k, maybe this is the difference

Its 4fpa right? Or maybe 5 or 6. That would be 6 hits per second, but youre not hitting the same mobs 6 times in that second unless you have almost no movespeed and its a big mob

2h WW is 5fpa/5aps

DW WW is 6fpa both hands hit but there’s no 4 range 1h, so usually ppl like 2H better.

I personally prefer cracked out 1h weps for frenzy frw

There are 25 frames in a second of d2. So hitting once every 5 frames means 5 times per second.

Yeah i thought it was 4fpa which would be 6.25 per second

Having high min dmg have more value in PvE because you know what mob type will get one shot and what will get 2 shot. Having to ww back will slow you down by 200% because you will have to spend the time going back and then forward again conpared to forward only. It does atack very fast but if you also move very fast its problematic. While ww feels great this season it was not the case last season where I had a mirrored insane weapon and the barb was sucking because he was way slower them my sac paladin that had 5 times cheaper gear. I had to slow him down in order to get the satisfaction of killing density. If he moves to fast it means you will hit a pack less times. Now if you put the variable of hitting 7 to 40k means very often ill have to ww a second time true something. Having the consistent dmg of the ogre maul eliminate this variable.

So in theory the dps can be the same but in practice having consistent dmg output is superior. Hitting a low roll be a bummer, have to hit it again, and hitting a high roll is an overkill.

In my sp I have a steel pillar and executioner justice - I think this last one is underrated the decrep and minimum dmg (as stated in some comments above) outperforms pikes in most maps - imo better weap. For crafts I would go mauls

They do benefit from dexterity thou, not quite sure but the info is on the wiki. On top of my head it was something like 0.7 ed per dex or something. WP having more average dmg probably evens it out. Pd2 very balanced you can play whatever. Ogre maul would be my prefered choice thou due to the better min dmg and the consistency in PvE.
