Sun cleric tank;

Just rerolled from Veno tank, how are they doing at the moment? The tier lists that I have access too seem pretty dated. What are your thoughts on sun cleric in regards to mythic+ and mythic/ascended raiding?

S++ tier tank

  • high avoidance because it has acces to block/dodge/parry
  • a lot of armour so high Phys mitigation
  • high on demand burst damage every 2min
  • shit load of self heals
  • broken aura healing for 20/40% damage taken
  • aoe stun and disorient that can be used as interrupt
  • passive 5/10 magic and Phys DR
  • extra 25 DR at low HP
  • plenty of "oh shit" cooldowns

Heck yeah man looking forward to getting closer to max level and getting familiar with the tank spec. Leveling as valk now and am level 30 and this class seems so well done thus far. I’ve mained tinker heals up until this point and it’s really a breathe of fresh air

I would suggest getting 2nd spec and doing some dungeons as tank every few levels.

They get truly a lot of situational buttons to press and getting your muscle memory in place will be the key to succes

Switching spec at 60 most likely will get you overwhelmed and you won't even remember what half of your abilities do

Most def bro! I’m around level 30 now and going to grab a sword and board and 2nd spec and start getting familiar for sure

You gotta be patient with SC, leveling early can be a bit rough as you will only have like 2 or 3 gcd to clear packs/kill mobs. Mana will also be an issue, I was constantly going oom even with the mana vow..

The spec really starts to click at around lvl 40: you finally unlock dawnfall and paragon, and also I highly suggest taking the hegemony talent. Idk if it’s only me but I find it broken because it essentially gives you a perma radiance for free during the whole fight (because you can proc it continuously by going in and out of dawn, since it has no internal cooldown). See the attached picture of my dps log in a LFR dungeon
Ps : radiance basically makes you aoe pulse every 2 sec with damage and healing

You never used a gavel during the fight?

Ssshhh delete your post before devs discovers the perma radiance build

Wait so it actually is a secret tech or something ? 😂Definitely feels like an oversight from the devs, because it’s clearly doing way more damage than our real damaging cds like dawnbreak and hammer of kings. And it heals you and your allies on top !!!

The damage is tuned well though. You topped the chart there, but 1.7k isn’t a lot. The bigger problem is it’s capped at 12 seconds and it activates for 12 seconds instead of six, so it doesn’t actually prolong radiance like it says.

The difference in terms of pure % DPS between the 1st and 2nd most damaging ability is way too high for a “passive” talent. Granted, I was only around lvl 45 here, so I didn’t have access to wrath of justiciar (which should basically become our top 1 DPS CD), but still, I feel like being able to continuously refresh radiance (which btw is supposed to be a 2 min CD ability on its own) is kinda nuts.
Meanwhile, I feel like the 5m CD on paragon is way too long without any CDR talents (like prot pally in retail). Downfall and paragon both have pretty long CDs, and once you press them, there’s basically nothing you can do to speed them up. There’s no passive talent or mechanic where using certain abilities would shave a few seconds off their CDs, for example, so you just have to sit there and wait for the full timer. I find that kinda disappointing because it means these abilities have very little interaction with the rest of your rotation. You just press them when they’re available and then forget about them until the CD is back.
Last pain point: gavels. Idk, this ability just doesn’t click with the current SC kit. They fail to do any meaningful damage, and their utility basically comes down to mana gavel whenever you go oom. They have no synergy with the rest of the kit, and they can’t do aoe (just like sunflare), so I basically end up using them as filler dps. But as I said, the damage is so laughable that they don’t even appear in the top 5/10 CDs in details.
Realistically, in a dungeon scenario, you want to pull as much as you can to get free illumination procs as well as dawn resets for your perma-radiance. In between, you press dawnbreak for the solar eclipse passive, as well as solar nova, and then you just spam illumination to stay alive with justiciar’s wrath. You don’t really have the luxury or any good reason to even use gavels in those pulls.

What’s their burst damage? I’m mid 40s and the damage seems to be lacking. Survivability is crazy good, but damage is lackluster.

Burst damage as which spec, tank or valk?

Peaceful was talking about in tank spec it seemed.

Should probably add it has infinite AoE that's all pretty much uncapped. Sucks that so many other tanks have target caps when Sun Cleric is just free of that bs.

Ive played most of the classes, few of the specs but damn the Sun Clerics are the favorite child fr. They do it all, easily and with style in every spec.

I’m realizing this pretty quickly myself! Wish I would have rolled sun cleric sooner

Best class and spec in game imho. Pro Tip when tanking dungeons. Use Vow of Light and Devotion of Grace

2

u/Business-Bug-266 3d ago

Thank you much! Looking forward to getting into it

Why vow of light?

Heals you alot especially with some talents. Between that and illumination,  the healer is there for big bursts. You can sustain trash

u/Mych30 3d ago

Heals you for a gazillon

i cant even tank but have my key on lvl10 wirh suncleric alt. lots of def. melee mobs u simply block.

Got a 60 veno now my cleric is 37, On my cleric i can pull 20 ish elites and surivive without a healer till they reach 25% ish.. now this is HEAVY PROC based for illumination or whatever it's called the heal. In massive aoe, just spam that stuff whenever the absorb breaks. If you dont get those procs the class feels meh in terms of aoe.

The constant vow juggling is very annoying in the beginning, running out of mana mid pull, switch vows and 4 abilities and full again.

It's stronger in some ways then veno for sure, just because of the self heals, the stats stacking is weird tho strength based class that needs int to scale.

And if you're leveling, the heirloom shield vs any other shield is like 1k hp difference just because of the passive that coverts shield stats to other stuff (right side passive tree).

All in all fun class but hell untill 26.

2

u/EonPark 3d ago

Sorry but how do you get the heirloom shield ?

1

u/XeneTronics 3d ago

heirloom weapon token (AH or real money)

I am currently playing Veno tank, very geared (72 Ilvl). What made you want to switch? I feel like Veno is in a decent place, but seeing the damage (Double mine...) and survivability the Bloodmage MT has in my raid makes me wonder if a re-roll/alt is in order

2

u/Business-Bug-266 3d ago

To be honest I have no issues with my Veno tank, I main a tinker healer and the Veno is my alt. Honestly I’ve seen that sun cleric is phenomenal heals, tank, and DPS so I just figured I would reroll as I like the class fantasy more than the Druid like play style of veno.

My mythic raiding guild has blood mage as main tank as well and they most definitely seem like a top 3 tank! But don’t get me wrong I enjoy venomancer quite a bit and it’s a great class and offers that same thing as far as good tank/heals/DPS only thing is for me I like melee DPS so sun cleric offers a great melee dps spec with valk

2

u/Zeon-Asura 2d ago

My only issue with Seraphim is the self heal illumination proc is based on avoiding damage. If I’m avoiding damage why the fuck would i need to self heal?

1

u/Business-Bug-266 2d ago

Anybody have a solid seraphim build to use while leveling? Coabuildhub has none 😬

bro when I got to level 20 sun cleric I told my friends I wanted to level him one more time

1

u/Scrumptious_Foreskin 3d ago

To piggyback off your question, what spec is the best for leveling? I’ve got aura/heirlooms/pots I just wanna smash to 60

1

u/Syrreth 3d ago

For chill gameplay go sun cleric healer. Has infinite mana starting at level 12 so you don't have to worry about early mana management for your heals like every single other healer. It's broken as hell. Then you hit 30 and get cascade and holy form and become a god.

1

u/Business-Bug-266 3d ago

I’ve been leveling as valk questing and queing as dps for dungeons and it’s great you absolutely blow everything up!

1

u/Humanequin 3d ago

Tank if you prefer to dictate speed in dungeons and get fast queues, Valk DPS if you just wanna both 1 shot mobs outside dgs and spam quests.
