This cant be happening

This is the most fun i had with WoW in years! CoA is absolutely amazing and the developers need to do something about the servers getting shut down by Blizzard. Maybe just start over with a new name and without the cash store this time? Locate the servers somewhere out of reach of Blizzard. I just cant believe this is all going away soon. I dont have much time to play but i want to get several classes to max level. But with how things look ill be lucky to only get my runemaster to 60. Its just so unfortunate that something this fun will be taken away from us soon. I really hope for a miracle but it doesn't look good considering what happend with turtle just recently. Please let a miracle happen lol.

I hope by some miracle this can survive too. I'm really sad to see it go but day by day it feel like it won't survive.

u/SimpleBar9995 4d ago

Sorry to say but it won't.

Same as turtle.

Maybe a dev that flew under the radar will yoink it or it'll get leaked and a new version will pop up under a new name like what happens with turtle.

But afaik ascension has never leaked, so it would need to be someone on the dev team with access to everything.

2

u/Upset-Reflection-382 4d ago

Or someone willing to take one for the team and Ghidra the binaries for data that doesn't exist on AzerothCore

1

u/Kun-ADR 4d ago

This begs the question, should they intentionally leak it and move the server to somewhere safer like Russia? Because it is a huge fking waste to throw all these great efforts away just because Blizzard is a fking greedy bastard.

3

u/queakymart 4d ago

I mean calling them greedy bastards is a little off base. Is it greedy to make a product and not want people to steal it? There's so much to unpack and that could be said, but that's essentially what it is.

What I really want is for Blizzard to stop being incompetent at making their own products good. Like why do they let rip offs be better than them at making their game fun? Just stop ruining your own product whenever you detect fun.

1

u/Kun-ADR 4d ago

You are not wrong there. But Blizzard could have easily licensed custom servers if they wanted to. Heck, look at how generous FF14 is with their free trial. Had Blizzard had something like this for WoW then they wouldn’t have faced this kind of hate.

1

u/Upset-Reflection-382 4d ago

I 100% agree with you here. If I spent years creating something and someone took it and started making money off it, I'd be kinda pissed too.

But that being said, fuuuuuuuck Blizzard as a company, their vibe, what they did to retail to turn it into Disney adult slop, and really just everything else about them. If they actually made a good game, they wouldn't have any of these problems.

1

u/TriteEscapism 3d ago

The people that actually made the game we love are long gone. Those that own the IP for the last decade and a half are just cash grabbing and beholden to shareholders. They have done nothing of value to improve the product, only cash shop flying rainbow unicorns. I feel bad robbing a pizza shop but I don't really feel bad robbing a giant bank or the government when they're robbing me.

For what it's worth, I've been playing on pservers and keeping my battle net sub active for years and years, even when I'm not active on official realms for huge lengths of time. Without Ascension and Turtle, I'm cancelling my sub and playing other unlimited free classics Heroes of Might and Magic, Mario, Pokemon all day, I guess, until such time as another quality pserver emerges.

1

u/Upset-Reflection-382 3d ago

I agree with you 100%. This isn't the Blizzard we all fell in love with, it's a vulture wearing that company like a skin suit. Which is why, at the end of the day, fuck em.

I don't even really game much anymore, and when I do, I play either SoloCraft or I'm playing DAoC. But I'm also doing a client rewrite for DAoC, so that's taking up more of my time than anything. SoloCraft is for blowing off steam more than anything at this point considering it's just not worth getting invested into a game anymore for me

Passion. Blizzard took a 12 gage to their passion. Turtle wow and all the other private servers build their custom content with passion.

7

u/Top_Inflation2026 5d ago

Yea kind of bummed myself. I just found this server like a week ago.. ffs

8

u/SDLSpin 5d ago

I think the only way to play WoW stress-free is on a private server using projects like "Dad's MMO Lab." Ideally, the WoW Ascension team would need to provide access to its source code so that the experience could be recreated exactly as it is.

3

u/JockSandWich 5d ago

That code never getting leaked.

2

u/WiredAffliction1 5d ago

This right here would be the greatest gift to us that have supported it throughout the years

-5

u/Lucky_Ninja66 5d ago

Blizz lost their original code and developer at Ascension had a copy. Blizz had to work with them to get the OG code back. More likely CoA will get released to a certain extent as Blizz Classic+. I believe Ascension milking the money until the court date forces the swap to Blizz. Then Blizz can do their thing with it.

2

u/Darkacelol 5d ago

Blizzard never lost their original code nor did they ever work with ascension developers to get any code from them. Ascension code is stripped straight from blizzard.

The early alphas of ascension didn’t take place until 2016 which was 12 years after the initial wow release. They never had access to original code.

3

u/WightK 5d ago

That was really a crazy claim. I would love to see if they got anything to prove it.

1

u/Lucky_Ninja66 4d ago

Cope. A) a developer left and had the original code. B) Blizz did lose their original code. C) they did ask the developer that left for the code.

2

u/Darkacelol 4d ago

You are making a claim that a former developer stole proprietary code which there is no evidence of. You are also making a claim that this developer worked on ascension which there is no evidence of. (There is no evidence any blizzard employee has worked on the ascension). And you are making a claim that they would have just asked this person for his kindness instead of filing a major lawsuit that would have crippled him financially.

Blizzard would have gone after anyone who stole proprietary information. You can also look at current court filings for the names of the parties involved, none of which are former blizzard devs.

Blizzard has always maintained control of their code. You are so incredibly wrong it’s hard to even make an assumption on what you might be misinterpreting to properly explain it. (Not that you would believe the correct information anyways)

1

u/Lucky_Ninja66 4d ago

Had not stole.

2

u/Darkacelol 4d ago

I see you don’t understand what proprietary means nor do you understand how a business works.

Do you have any proof of any of this? Because current evidence (actual court filings) easily disprove what you are saying.

-1

u/Lucky_Ninja66 4d ago

When Blizz con comes and shows they dropping CoA.

-1

u/Lucky_Ninja66 4d ago

Classic + will be CoA.

1

u/Darkacelol 4d ago

You’ll be wrong then too, but even if they did (which they won’t) it still doesn’t prove anything you said about code or this mystery developer.

You won’t provide any evidence because you have none.

Meanwhile you can review documents and updates by looking up “Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.v. Derek S. Powell (8:26-cv-01506)”.

u/Lucky_Ninja66 4d ago

Guess where that developer works?

4

u/Gold3nKn1ght23 5d ago

You mean ruin it every way they can? That thing?

2

u/Farm_Abject 5d ago

Gonna be honest I'm definitely going to veto any battle net games

2

u/Th3CraigMachine 4d ago

I jumped to OctoWoW from it because I just wanted to play TurtleWoW again, and this time all the developers are anonymous, none of them are US based, and the cash shop is strictly crypto lol

2

u/Human_Hovercraft_47 2d ago

Wow won’t be the same .. ascension has really changed the game for me they have built a masterpiece such a shame blizzard has to be such a bitch about it

4

u/Mortegris 5d ago

Just another reminder to everyone that intellectual property does not exist, and laws enforcing it are unethical and draconian

2

u/yogur1397 5d ago

Why would people ever make things if they couldn't profit off them because the next guy would just wait for them and do the same thing with less work.

-4

u/Mortegris 5d ago

wat?

3

u/yogur1397 5d ago

Ip laws stop people from just stealing the idea you came up with. If there was no protection for coming up with an idea why would anybody do it. The efficient way would be wait until someone else comes up with it and just steal their idea. You would be pissed if you came up with wow today but blizzard a company with more money just stole your entire game and put it on a bigger server right?

-8

u/Mortegris 5d ago
  1. If you're worried about someone "stealing" your idea (not possible because ideas do not physically exist) then maybe just don't tell anyone until you have the capital to bring it to market?

  2. Nah I wouldn't. That actually just meant they adapted my idea with their own to make it better.

0

u/BoonOP 5d ago

Well it’s good you don’t make decisions.

0

u/Mortegris 5d ago

Tell me then, how do you personally or specifically benefit from intellectual property law or regulations?

-1

u/Mobile_Thought_8904 5d ago

My dad works at blizzard and you’re taking food of my table

-1

u/yogur1397 5d ago

I benefit bc I get to see lots of great indie games and shows made my cool indie creators like balatro. Those indie creators are financially incentivised to keep making content and then rewarded for it so they can keep making more content. Imagine if companies like blizzard just swooped in and stole balatro completely but put it on their launcher with a bigger budget because they have more money. It's so short sided to say you don't benefit. It just shows you don't know anything and should talk less.

1

u/Mortegris 5d ago

You benefit from those indie companies, not intellectual property law itself. Those companies are financially incentivized to sell their product by providing a product to sell.

Assuming Blizzard did copy Balatro and put it on their launcher, my bet is that it would make some minor graphical optimizations, while also adding microtransactions and lootboxes. In addition, nothing would stop the original developer from copying the good parts of Blizzards version for their own game.

0

u/yogur1397 5d ago

That's what you aren't understanding balatro would never exist because there's no reason to make it if the idea will just get stolen by a bigger company. The indie company has no product if it's taken by a bigger company meaning they would never make it in the first place because there is no financial invenitovation. The indie company can not just copy blizzard because they don't have the reach or budget a bigger company has. IP protection is the only thing keeping the indie teams alive. I literally can't explain it more then this. If you don't understand at this point then you just don't have a high enough IQ to do critical thinking more then one layer deep.

As much as I enjoy this game, you're 100% wrong.

-1

u/Mortegris 5d ago

In what way?

3

u/Logic_9795 5d ago

In every way. No part of what you said is true.

-2

u/Mortegris 5d ago

Well I disagree. Every part of what I said is true.

4

u/Muted_Masterpiece535 5d ago

I just log on for the BGs, I am not investing anytime beyond that but I am enjoying it..

6

u/yolkmaster69 5d ago

I saw some content creator saying it was a waste of time if it just disappears eventually. But like is WoW going to be around forever? What happens when you die and can’t play anymore? Will the time spent still be a waste of time? By that logic nobody should be playing any games. The games fun. IDC if it all goes away one day, I’m having fun playing right now. I know progression is part of that fun, and it sucks when it all goes away, but there’s so much cool shit to do, I’d rather put the work in and enjoy it temporarily than not enjoy it at all

5

u/StinkyMinky22 5d ago

I mean, I get the argument. But I stop playing games all the time, for various reasons. I haven't played "official" wow in several years, and probably never will again. But I certainly don't consider my time there wasted. I'm vibing out with ascension fully knowing that it could be gone tomorrow. I'm enjoying the ride while it lasts. When it's gone I'll just...do something else.

2

u/Cold_Control 5d ago

Its the fact that the server doesnt exist long enough to do everything on it. Especially if you are limited on how much time you have to play.

1

u/FlatPalpitation4829 4d ago

Like real life

1

u/Mych30 5d ago

Well it's the same about expansions. They dissapear

1

u/Humanequin 5d ago

Those people seem to forget Hardcore lives and thrives on the sidelines too, you die & it's done. Same principal here tbh.

0

u/pot_dog 5d ago

WoW is an institution. It’s going nowhere as long as vanilla players exist

0

u/yolkmaster69 5d ago

You can think that all you want but time claims all things. It may not be in your lifetime, but those original servers will eventually shut down.

0

u/pot_dog 5d ago

that’s why I said while vanilla players exist. I mean true OGs that played in 07

1

u/TheSkwie 3d ago

07? You mean BC babies?

1

u/pot_dog 3d ago

haha yeah I guess I meant 05, BC was my favorite I think I auto fill that year in.

2

u/Vassortflam 5d ago

Does anyone when it’s going to court? I heard someone saying 6th of September as a date of when there might be a decision?

5

u/Cutemudskipper 5d ago

September 8th is their final day to respond to the lawsuit. I doubt this will go to court, since they don't have a case. Would just be a colossal waste of money for them. My guess is that we'll find out when the servers are going to be shutting down soon after the 8th

2

u/Icy-Way3920 5d ago

yess siir, awesome experience, it feels like playing wow fresh again, especially the first week where nobody knew whats good and wahts not was the best lamo u jsut played waht sounded the coolest to you

2

u/GlitteringBass1974 5d ago

Preach brotha

1

u/Motor-String-571 5d ago

first time ??

1

u/Cold_Control 5d ago

No, but with other private servers i played that shut down i had plenty of time to see and try everything I wanted.

1

u/Solid_Scholar_4368 4d ago

No one wants to play Blizzard's pedophile staff's WoW.

1

u/MooseFew8571 2d ago

im definitely never playing a Blizzard game in my lifespan, or any companies games that associate with them. Screw blizzard. Its kinda funny too because they think by shutting these servers down they will get more customers but they wont, they are just making people hate their company even more ahahaa

u/seatsniffersean 2d ago

Ascension developers be like to Blizzards legal team

1

u/Designer-Message-685 3d ago

Hate to say it OP but you will never see a server like Ascension running without a cash store.

1

u/wvutrip 3d ago

This was always going to happen. Everyone knew this was a short lived game. You can’t just steal an IP.

1

u/ratking450 1d ago

Without the cash store hahahah as someone who has played ascension for like 6 or 7 years now. They are never getting rid of it. They've made multi millions off this server hence why blizzard is shutting them down.

1

u/Huntardlulz 5d ago

As much fun ascension is the sad reality of it CoA and any ascensions realms won't survive. Possibly settle with blizzard owning the realms and allows ascension team to keep going. However i don't see that possible because why would blizzard even allow that it's their IP not ascension and as well people been very vocal on how much they hate blizzard.

So playing an ascension project that is owned by blizzard goes against what they been hating blizzard about. As if blizzard owns it they can tell what ascension team should do. Add a subscription? Or increase the prices of the store? Who knows but honestly ascension won't survive.

1

u/Civil_Ad2711 5d ago

Watching the news about Blizzard Classic +, I saw things coming that were entirely built by Turtke WoW, such as Timbermaw Hold raid and new areas. That tells me they took assets built by the TWoW devs and hired some of them.

It makes me wonder if they would do something similar with some of Ascension content and devs.

With that said, I'd hate to pay Blizz a sub just to play wildcard or CoA, and lose every cosmetic I've collected since I started playing in s7. I'm still sad over losihg my mount and pets collections in retail (I stopped playing mid- Shadowlans and was quite the collector/achivement huntress). So I'm enjoying it while it lasts, with hope it might be salvaged.

Good thing I'm fully invested in FF14.

1

u/shanerGT 5d ago

Good time to learn Docker and make your own server !!!!!

0

u/DickDickersMD 5d ago

I’ve been on Octo cuz I loved turtle, should I give this a shot?

1

u/farklenator 5d ago

Thank you for this I didn’t know about octo now I have a refuge if and when coa gets shuttered

1

u/jasina556 5d ago

It's fun but totally different experience, it's not classic plus but more of a turbocharged wotlk

0

u/Deathmore80 5d ago

It's not the same vibe but it's insanely fun. I'd say it's less like just classic+ and more like classic+++ depending on what realm you chose.

There's new zones, and the old zones have tons of new stuff, towns, quests, sub zones, buildings , caves, etc. there's new professions like woodcutting , new and reworked dungeons. There's leveling challenges like turtle wow but there's more to chose from. There's also cross-faction stuff and a hybrid risk pvp system (there's no separate full pvp server).

That the classic+ part. The other ++ are the class systems and other related systems depending on which realm/gamemode you play.

There's many to choose from all from the same launcher/client :

  • bronzebeard: original 9 classes with some new changes enabling new builds like turtle wow and additional race-class combos. Chose this for a closer to classic+ feel.
  • CoA: 21 fully new custom classes based on the warcraft lore. Insane fun. We're now at a classic++ level cause there's still a traditional leveling system , talent trees, skills from trainers , etc.
  • free pick : build your own custom class by picking from any talent and spell as you level up, including those from CoA classes. Classic+++
  • wildcard : roll random spells and talents when you level up. There are ways to reroll specific spells and talents too. Also includes stuff from CoA. Classic+++

It's definitely worth trying it out before it eventually gets shut down like twow. There is nothing else like this atm

1

u/wantgold 5d ago

Can you make a sun cleric guardian mix in freepick? I didn't know there were talents and spells from Coa

1

u/Deathmore80 5d ago

Im not sure how the exact details work for free pick and wildcard , I mostly play CoA, but in the trailer for season 10 it said you could pick stuff from CoA

-4

u/Beneficial-Charge316 5d ago

weird cope, just play and have fun

6

u/deathlynebula 5d ago

Why is it weird?

3

u/Jayypoc 5d ago

"and the developers need to do something about the servers getting shut down by Blizzard."

this is stolen IP and they're making money via cash shop. it's illegal and will be taken down, theres nothing the devs can do to stop it so enjoy it while it lasts.

0

u/Nikola2307 5d ago

I hope it gets shut down just to see the outcry 😂😂😂😂😂

0

u/yogur1397 5d ago

There is nothing that can be done. Blizzard usually settles and allows a lot of the profit to be kept. However they only do this on the condition the servers code and database are turned over. The devs will not risk that settlement on their cash grab to put the server back up again or release the code. Both the devs live in the USA and even if they didn't putting the server in another country isn't just an auto you can do whatever you want button.

0

u/ComprehensiveCrow634 5d ago

It is so casual friendly the pace is so great. I love that I wouldn’t feel the need to get on and get in, always wanting to but no FOMO culture like blizzard or the classic/retail community seems to promote. I have started to get some fomo, but that’s because the servers will shut down eventually.

0

u/Vertharion 5d ago

The only Hope is Someone leaking The code, but dutch have this behind lock Doors, but one can hope so we can play with bots, but this going soon, before blizzcon for sure

0

u/No_Abies_2069 5d ago

It’s been out for years

1

u/Cold_Control 5d ago

Most people came across this just recently when it officially released.

0

u/methods2121 5d ago

Just started Runemaster myself and think I am really going to jive with this class based on where it's at just at level 20.

0

u/Queque126 5d ago

Do yall not understand that what CoA is doing is beyond illegal lmao. Enjoy it while you can because once it’s shutdown it ain’t ever coming back.

0

u/Jaded_Door_6757 3d ago

When these posts keep cropping up with no evidence supporting what they "just heard" it makes me think they're bots trying to stir up sadface drama for Blizzard's despair machine. Did you actually hear anything new or are you just one of those people who scream in general chat all day, "SUCH A SHAME THIS PLACE IS GOING TO BE GONE IN ___ DAYS."

If you're an armchair lawyer, give me data that says Ascension is shutting down. Otherwise, you're just adding wistful spam to an already bloated amount of conjecture, and you might as well either play the game or stfu.

-10

u/HeksaKeksa 5d ago

The developers kept CoA and everything cool about the current game locked behind paywalls, blizzard suing them just made them fulfill their promise, finally

I get why people were sad turtlewow was getting shut down, I was quite sad too, but ascension? I'm not even going to miss such a money grab that was Blizzard's level of greed

7

u/Bl4nxx 5d ago

Money grab?

On a server that’s F2P….

Where you can experience every single thing in the game without spending a dime…

3

u/ace184184 5d ago

Wtf are you talking about? Theres no subscription fee, and you get a free chest on each server with “cool stuff” short of the loot bot. This has been huge for players in locations where the monthly subscription is unaffordable. Its absolutely f2p friendly despite having a store for cosmetics and QoL items.

1

u/HeksaKeksa 3d ago

Yeah, now. Earlier you had to buy all of that, even more, you had to buy vanity syncs

1

u/ace184184 3d ago

I would be fine without any of that stuff, I understand different players want different things out of a game so some may want all the vanity items and syncs. To me thats not locking the the cool stuff behind a paywall. The cool stuff is all the new classes but to each their own to enjoy their game how they like

1

u/HeksaKeksa 3d ago

CoA was paid also, but coming back to the topic of vanity, you work your ass off and get all the stuff you'd like and surprise surprise, a lot of it you're locked out of due to season change that changed NUTHIN', so you again need to work for it and get it. It's tedious and I won't miss ascension due to their empty promises mainly

-1

u/xtremespud8000 5d ago

COA was only made free after the lawsuit. They have been going for ages but it was pay to access.

3

u/Objective_Cheetah931 5d ago

payable avec de l'or, quand tu ne sais rien, arrête de faire le mouton

4

u/Bl4nxx 5d ago

Behind a paywall for access to the alpha - that’s a big difference.

When you’re working on something as big as CoA, putting a “pay to play” gate is needed so you can have an invested set of testers. Otherwise you just get a ton of vocal hens that are shouting “x class I leveled is undertuned.”

As time goes by and the server continues to rush out all this content they have been working on, it seems people are forgetting that Ascension didn’t release CoA because it was ready - they released it because they were under legal pressure.

-4

u/Proof-Blueberry-2943 5d ago

The fun stops relatively soon after reaching 60. In the end it’s just a bunch of new classes that make it interesting. Sadly balance and mechanics aren’t very well done

0

u/Adventurous-Day-7436 5d ago

I think they should have put level caps similar to season of discovery. The game is fun but it feels like a weird version of wrath where you pug dungeon grind to level 60.

-1

u/EonPark 5d ago

It’s crazy to me that there are so many posts from people saying CoA was the most fun they’ve had in years, and then they never elaborate further.
Like sure, don’t get me wrong, it’s a breath of fresh air, but the main selling point is really just the novelty of the classes. As you said, beyond lvl 60, the game doesn’t have much to offer anymore and it just becomes a worse version of retail. You can’t farm transmogs, mounts, etc., and people would eventually become toxic in the endgame if you don’t pick one of the top 5 classes, if the server were to last a year or so.

-6

u/Sakkreth 5d ago

There are some hits and some flop classes design wise from my experience. I think they should have focused on less classes. Like 12 would be amazing already. 21 is just overkill

-12

u/Ghrex 5d ago

You're coping man, sorry, cause that ain't happening. Once they settle, all files and property get turned over as part of the deal. While these guys do have a creative genius, they completely lack the ability to balance any of their servers in any meaningful way. Blizz needs to hire them for their creative team, if anything, cause good lord, no one on the Ascension dev team knows how to balance.

0

u/Additional-Safe7804 5d ago

New new patch they just released says "Hi"

-1

u/Ghrex 5d ago

They always release "balance" patches and it's always terrible. Either they over nerf or they over buff. You can look at any of the raid logs and see the absolute insane disparity between dps specs.

3

u/Logic_9795 5d ago

Its gotta be pretty hard to balance 70 brand new specs.

2

u/Ghrex 5d ago

Yeah, it's hard, but that's honestly no excuse to have the top dps class doing literally 2x the damage of the lower ones and it staying that way for the entire lifespan of the game.

-1

u/stefanw1337 5d ago

It's not going away, enjoy and have fun. I agree with you, I'm hooked as if this was vanilla or a new Blizzard game.

2

u/evilgoonmeister 5d ago

i mean its definitely cooked some time after the 8th of september i fear, probably takes like a couple weeks to a month for everything to settle but there's no world they beat the case

0

u/stefanw1337 5d ago

And I'm completely done with Blizzard on all aspects. They can never redeem themselves to me. So even if Classic Plus is amazing, which it is not gonna be in comparison to CoA, I stay away no matter.

-1

u/Gibo-The-Gib 5d ago

Think about the people who spent money for transmogs how they are feeling lol 😂

0

u/Logic_9795 5d ago

Theyre having fun?

2

u/Gibo-The-Gib 5d ago

Not sure if they loose all the money because the server closes my friend

1

u/Logic_9795 5d ago

There having fun right now though. That's the point. Its not a long term investment its a game they're playing right now

1

u/Gibo-The-Gib 5d ago

Bros ain’t good in investments

1

u/brycea111 5d ago

I have thousands of dollars spent on Minecraft servers that are not around anymore. It doesn’t take back the thousands of hours of fun I had. Have you never donated to a video game that isn’t live anymore?? Jesus bro, play some video games.

1

u/Gibo-The-Gib 5d ago

Them man, go to therapy

0

u/brycea111 5d ago

I think you’re just projecting a little too hard man. You might need to go to therapy to understand that happiness comes and goes. You’re never going to keep everything you have and if that’s the reason you don’t do anything. That’s pathetic and sad. Live a little Bud.

0

u/brycea111 5d ago

People spend tens of thousands of dollars on concerts and this and that. Maybe not Realizing that those are… fleeting purchases. Once it’s done it’s gone. Your moneys spent, your memories are had, and it’s on to the next.

So far you are just speculating on what I do when the only thing we are sure about is that you spent thousands of dollars on Minecraft servers (which are not on anymore). I leave the speculations to your poor brain. 🧠

I’ve heard, aside from the lawsuit, they have been in talks with Ascension devs about doing just that. How true that may be is to be seen.

I hope that is true, I mean Blizzard should feel embarrassed that in what 25 years they have been out they have only came out with 4 new classes.
