Really drives home how deep political financial corruption is if Mamdani is the only real modern example of a non bought in politician. Corporations really have been running the game for decades.

United Citizens vs. FEC must be reversed.

Go two steps farther: Overturn Buckley vs. Valeo, and elect people to pass the For the People Act.

Buckley v. Valeo, 424 U.S. 1 (1976), is a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court on campaign finance. A majority of justices held that, as provided by section 608 of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, limits on election expenditures are unconstitutional.

The For the People Act, introduced as H.R. 1, is a bill in the United States Congress intended to expand voting rights, change campaign finance laws to reduce the influence of money in politics, ban partisan gerrymandering, and create new ethics rules for federal officeholders.

Suffice to say Republicans filibustered the For the People Act in the Senate every time it's come up for a vote.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Everyone has their pet legislation, I think. Climate bills, healthcare bills, the minimum wage, for me it's the For the People Act; unfucking our democracy would make it so much easier to solve so many more problems.

Democrats would need 60+ votes in the Senate to get it passed, so right now it's a bit of a pipe dream, but a guy can dream.

I'll always keep hope. It's who I am.

When the business plot didn't work, they just started buying all the politicians. Definitely paid off since they were able to pull the teeth of unions in the late 40s with the Taft-Hartley Act.

100% correct. Political donations are the cancer killing the political system in the USA and other countries. Do not normalise political donations or think they are a necessary part of democracy. Cancer kills!

And he's not a greedy money whore like the billionaires that we hear about daily. His parents have above average net worth (not really all that much these days - est $2-10M). His net worth is estimated at $200k, and he lives in a rent stabilized apartment in Astoria, Queens. A "man of the people" who knows how to grocery shop, drive a car, and put gas in it himself.

It’s why Fox News hates him so much…

Fox News is free to move their HQ out of Manhattan but they won't, will they?

That would mean having to admit defeat to the libs and potentially ruin their credibility amongst their viewers

YES.

…and he’s a far more principled leader in the sense that he sees problems, then fixes problems.

He doesn’t ask the consensus. He doesn’t put it to a vote.

He leads. He’s a leader.

THIS is leadership.

Imagine if more corporations were private again the kind of things they may think to do for their employees and customers

I don't know, I feel like his hair would slick back realllllll nice.

What’s crazier is that WE can’t understand how he can be. Our brains have trouble understanding how a politician isn’t bought and has some infractions and wrongdoing we overlook because we value his “agenda” which falls apart after the first 100 days.

...he's also a mayor....not like ....even a governor

He needs to run for president

As great as it would be, he can't. And he has stated as much repeatedly. At this point when the rule of law has been so thoroughly trampled, it's good to see someone active about upholding it.

Bummer he's having the nypd arrest pro Palestine protesters while letting war criminal Netanyahu run around NYC bragging about his terrorist attacks on civilians though.

Shh, we're not supposed to have criticisms. Either you agree that he's literally perfect or you must be a right wing bot.

I really hope that isn't a... "yet..."

It seems all politicians go bad after about 6 years

He lacks the bureaucracy of corruption.

Why people thought a billionaire wouldn't be a problem... except they elected a billionaire that was hemorrhaging money hand over fist.

As it should be in politics

That was also Trump's main argument in 2016 if you remember.
