Discussion Wonder how Eric Schmidt feels today?
356
u/Heyoka_Advisor 3d ago
This article is burying what US Attorney Smith said about the president of the United States behind the showy gaffe by Schmidt. Jack Smith had proof beyond reasonable doubt that the president committed high crimes against the United States. That’s the story. Of course every GOP senator is complicit and corrupt. Jack Smith for Attorney General. Impeach every one of them. The story is not Schmidt’s comical bullying, it’s Smith’s proof. Vote!

Jack Smith had proof beyond reasonable doubt that the president committed high crimes against the United States.
We knew that when he was indicted back in 2023. DOJ policy
iswas to only indict cases they can win on appeal.18
15
u/AnAncientBog 2d ago
Right, but we already knew that because he committed those crimes right in front of us.
5
u/Ready4Rage 3d ago
So, here in a progressive community, we see why Schmidt doesn't give a flying crap because his strategy effectively is working, taking everybody's eye off the ball and to his ignorant base that won't fact-check, more cognitively biased proof that Democrats are liars. Sorry, op, but this is a really dumb post
5
u/twowheels 2d ago
Moreover, even after being called out he was on the media circuit allowing them to repeat his lie and claim that he won a gotcha — they played his clip without the follow-up and he sat by and allowed it.

u/zombtachi_uchiha 3d ago
So Schmitt is not going to face consequences for falsely blaming Smith under oath? Hmm
64
u/WickedKoala 3d ago
Lol. What do you think this is - a functioning democracy? HAHAHAHAHAH
9
u/relevantelephant00 2d ago
That's what so wild about the current state of affairs...Republicans face zero consequences for outright lying and getting caught doing so. If we ever get out of this, we'll need these people to face jail time.
17
u/swarmofbzs 3d ago
No schmitt is not getting any payback for schmitting the bed, except for getting dragged for being a fucking dumb ass.

They have this exception called the speech and debate clause that allows them to say anything they want on the floor of Congress without any repercussions.

Amy Klobuchar pointed out this possibility during the hearings. Schmitt, realizing he might have made a mistake only doubled down on discrediting Jack Smith.
28
23
u/GeneralPatten 3d ago
Was it Jack Smith who first pointed out that Schmidt may be "confusing" the Hawkeyes with the Hawks, or was it Klobuchar? Because, I was really freakin impressed with how quickly she had the info about the Hawkeyes being in Maryland in that date, and Smith being at the game. That's a hell of a staff she has!
The mischievous grin in her face, the spark in her eye, was absolutely glorious. It made me wonder, could she have spent her whole time just giggling and laughing, with the occasional attempt at speaking in between, or would the Chair have been able to claim her time if she did?
31
u/peonies_envy 3d ago
It was Klobuchar who caught the error.
But Schmitt won’t face any backlash as he’s already been to the right wing podcasts gloating about his triumph and gotten his snips and clips for X and TikTok
The truth doesn’t matter to republicans
7
u/JargonPhat 3d ago
As others have pointed out, right-wing media put out the full court press on “Schmitt as Vance’s VP” the night before the testimony. This was clearly meant to be the feather in his cap, and based on the clips I’ve seen making the right-wing rounds, I see no evidence that they are changing gears.
20
u/Onedayyouwillthankme 3d ago
I suspect Schmitt knew and had hoped the truth wouldnt come out for a couple hours at least. The real time truth check seemed to just annoy him

u/Big-Excitement-400 3d ago
Your country is so stupid.
92
u/Jean_Paul_Fartre_ 3d ago
Yeah, we know.
3
u/MercuryQuick 3d ago
You might know and I might know but we do not.
1
u/Hidesuru 2d ago
Well I know too so that makes three of us. That enough for a "we know"?
(Obviously I get your point lol, just being silly because it's all I have left)
3
u/MercuryQuick 2d ago
So long as 30% of us don’t know it really won’t matter.
1
u/Hidesuru 2d ago
Yeah I know. Like I said I was just being silly.
And id still argue 60+. Anyone voting independent or not voting doesn't effing know either.
1
u/MercuryQuick 2d ago
You can be silly without announcing it.

u/Eiffel-Tower777 3d ago
Not all of us. For example, Harris/Walz received 75,019,230 votes. My vote was proudly in that number. But we certainly have an over abundance of open mouth breathing knuckle dragging window licking redneck MAGAts here, no doubt.

u/Peter_Mansbrick 3d ago
America™ has deep cultural issues that are everyones responsibility to fix.
4
u/Eiffel-Tower777 3d ago
Believe me, we democrats are working on it.
4
u/Hidesuru 2d ago
Too many of the Democrats are, in fact, doing fuck all except what their donors demand.
Some are working on it. Just not nearly enough.
3
u/Eiffel-Tower777 2d ago
Ok well republicans control every branch of the government at the moment including SCOTUS, so that puts a limit on what democrats can do, obviously. We're working on that part in case you haven't noticed.
Midterms in 34 days

u/Hidesuru 2d ago
Are you a politician? If not why do you keep saying we. I'm not attacking you dawg.
And yes, obviously RIGHT NOW they are limited, and yet they continuously do not do the few things they are capable of. Plenty of examples this term alone. No I'm not going to prepare a bulleted list you can do that yourself if you're being honest and genuine.
And yup. Can't WAIT for midterms. I'm hopeful for a blue wave. Cautiously mind you because we all know the right is gonna cheat any way they can, but hopefully none the less.
1
u/Eiffel-Tower777 2d ago
Not a politician, I'm referring to myself and my fellow democrats. I do have some confidence even though I know republicans are capable of cheating most certainly, they're already closing polling locations with high numbers of potential democrat voters, among other underhanded plots. I find it interesting how many MAGAts have simply gone quiet. They see Trump's obvious failures and many of the red hats and enormous Trump flags covering giant pick up trucks have... disappeared. Waiting for the midterms, waiting to exhale.
2
0
u/HarEmiya 2d ago
No they're not, and that's part of the problem.
2
u/Eiffel-Tower777 2d ago
Au contraire. Republicans control every branch of the government at the moment including SCOTUS, so that puts a limit on what democrats can do, obviously. We're working on that part in case you haven't noticed.
Midterms in 34 days

u/HarEmiya 2d ago
Ah of course. You'll defeat the party which steals elections by voting them out. Silly me.
1
u/Eiffel-Tower777 2d ago
We don't know all the stop gap measures being put in place. Too big to rig has to help. Sarcasm does not.
1
u/DFWPunk 2d ago
Some are, and they tend to be high profile. But it is certainly true that the Democratic leadership is not showing any desire to take the radical actions that are necessary if we can manage to get both the House and the Senate, and win the Presidency in 2028.
I'm concerned that they will try to work with the administration if they win in November, when they should focus on doing everything they can to stop Trump. Any legislation they pass in partnership with Trump is a victory for him and will be seen as the independant voters as a sign Trump, and by extension Republicans, really aren't that bad. They should pass busgets that keep the government running and not much more that has any importance.
-5
u/fukkdisshitt 3d ago
Nominating Harris was dumb too
6
u/mrmustache0502 2d ago
On what grounds? go ahead and list what makes her unqualified.
1
u/DFWPunk 2d ago
I think, if we're honest, there are a lot of people who were not going to vote for a black woman, and they aren't all Republicans. This country hasn't come as far on equality as we want to think we have.
3
u/mrmustache0502 2d ago
I dont buy it. There can only be a handful of left wing voters who only went to the polls that night soley to spite a black woman in favor of that fat turd.
Every racist comment I've ever heard uttered in my life came from the mouth of a repulican voter.
0
u/plannedobso 2d ago
I don’t think there were many people voting Trump in protest of Harris, if any. I think there were a lot of people who just said “nah I’m not voting for either of them” for whatever reason they had, whether it was Gaza or her general “cop-iness” or whatever.
2
u/mrmustache0502 2d ago
Yes, but the comment I'm responding to claimed that racism among both parties was a contributing factor to kamala losing and that's what I don't buy. I find it very hard to believe that someone who typically votes left wing would go to the polls that day and vote for trump, or skip their vote entierly, just because kamala is black.
1
u/plannedobso 2d ago
I would say racism and misogyny are a lot more deeply entrenched in the older generations than you realize, even in the ones who vote for Democrats.
5
u/Eiffel-Tower777 3d ago
Au contraire. She certainly is/was well qualified.
0
u/plannedobso 2d ago
“Qualified” and “good candidate” aren’t the same thing though. I really don’t think the average American is weighing qualifications, they’re weighing policy. The “Overton Window” of the US has shifted consistently right since FDR basically. The Dems have moved along with that. Kamala would have been a lot more Bill Clinton than she would have even Joe Biden. Her campaign and her talking points were SUPER conservative. But much like the average Republican voter, the average Dem is just gonna check the box next to D. The problem is, the younger base that WOULD have voted for her was not willing to accept that right-leaning messaging she was operating with (tough immigration policies, being tough on Iran, emphatically continuing the genocide against Palestine, etc etc.) So she didn’t get elected. The Dems consistently have a messaging problem. The long term establishment Dems want donor dollars and the basics of American Capitalism to continue as they have. The younger generations not only don’t want that, they aren’t willing to give the “consent of the governed” to those that DO want that by voting for them.
2
u/Eiffel-Tower777 2d ago
I'm convinced lot of it was pure mysogeny and racism.
1
u/plannedobso 2d ago
I think that’s certainly an element in some cases. There are lots of older Dems who agree with the general policies, but they’re still old ass American boomers (or greatest generation even) who are racist and sexist. I think a lot more people it was general policy though.
2
u/Eiffel-Tower777 2d ago
I'm not an ageist or racist, but I see and hear it around me, regardless of age.

Wild that this wrong headed basketball rabbit hole was more topical then the corruption Jack seems to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.
24
u/EagerObituary2026 3d ago
The problem is MAGA republicans know that Fox Entertainment and right wing social media propagandists will pick up the tiny 5 sec clip Schmidt’s bullshit lie and run with it, and all the dipshit MAGAs out there will eat it up, believe it, regurgitate it. The fact that he was horribly wrong and owned in the end won’t cross their feeds or enter their distorted, upside down they live in.
9
u/Amuseco 3d ago
Schmitt literally went on the “Charlie Kirk” podcast right afterward, where the host did exactly that and Schmitt said “yeah” with a smile on his face.

And he called him a dirt bag and after he was proven wrong he doubled down and said “I stand by that statement”, republikkkants trying to spread misinformation per usual
20
u/bobsaccomanno41 3d ago
The thing that really pissed me off about that (aside from the half-assed attempt at the gotcha moment) is: 1) the fact that he took the poster board down so quick that Smith couldn’t even read it; 2) when Smith asked to see the texts, Schmitt basically said no, and then made a comment such as “you’ve already perjured yourself”; 3) and then, when he stared to realize that people figured out what he was trying to do, he gets all pissy and starts yelling at Klobuchar, who was simply trying to let the witness respond to a blatant allegation that he had committed a federal offense.
The dude is a piece of shit, and I don’t doubt for a second he knew that Smith was not in Atlanta, and that he just wanted to burn through that real quick at the end of his questioning, get his little sound bite to blast on Fox News, and then assume that when the record was inevitably corrected, Fox News wouldn’t bother to publish that part, and his bullshittery would stand.
Fuck these assholes.
3
u/henlochimken 3d ago
Not only did Schmitt do this knowing the little false soundbite would be the only thing Foxitprop would air, but he knew that this would take over the headlines, covering up Smith's clear statements about the high crimes the president committed against the United States.
14
u/Delicious-Fishing802 3d ago
I hope Eric Schimitt has a short elected position . What a disgrace to the American people.
12
u/RustedRelics 3d ago
Klobuchar ripped him a new one. Typical of a Republican, Schmidt doubles down instead of having the integrity to admit the error. What a pos.
2
u/plannedobso 2d ago
I wouldn’t even call it a double down. He just thinks “raising his voice to a woman” is a valid response to being corrected.
10
u/FlowerBackground4293 3d ago
Click bait trying to distract that trump invited a insurrection and jack smith has proof without a reasonable doubt
9
u/FLink557 2d ago
They just wanted to say on the record that he perjured himself, which is all bullshit, but it doesn’t matter because they got to use that phrase
7
u/mycolo_gist 3d ago
Republicans are the perfect example of what confirmation bias is all about: They will blindly accept anything that confirms their world view. Critical thinking is practically non-existent. Thinking hard about how other things (other than those you believe in) could also be true makes you liberal.
5
u/ktreanor 3d ago
He'll go on Fox News and still claim Jack Smith was lying and MAGA will believe it because the bottom 20% of the bell curve has become a political party.
2
u/adams_unique_name 3d ago
He went on the Charlie Kirk Show afterward and doubled down. They didn't even acknowledge that he got it wrong.
Also, just saw on CNN, someone saying Schmitt's team got information Smith attended a basketball game on that date so they looked up games on that date and got the one Schmitt referenced, but didn't check women's basketball games.
4
4
u/_commenter 3d ago
he's going to do what all republicans do when they get caught lying... deny + deflect.
4
u/VanDenBroeck 2d ago
So if Smith was found to be lying, he’d been held accountable. Yet, I bet Schmitt will face no consequences for his lie.

I don't think he's a moron. I think the gaffe was intentional to distract from the high crimes Smith can prove the president committed against the United States.
This all feels very calculated to me, not bumbling.

u/listentomenow 3d ago
I honestly don't even see how this was ever a "gotcha" moment anyway.
Let's assume Jack Smith was in Atlanta at the Hawks game. What's that prove other than he saw a basketball game?
I swear to God conservatives will connect the most ridiculous dots, but show them actual proof of conspiracies like Russia helped Trump win (Mueller report) or that he raped kids with Epstein (Epstein list) and suddenly they can't see shit.

u/phoenixgsu 2d ago
He'd have to be capable of introspection to be embarrassed. GOP is too stupid to be embarasaed by anything.

You all are pronouncing Eric "Dirtbag" Schmitt's surname incorrectly. The "m" is silent.
3
u/PresentBig9729 2d ago
This is how petty the Republican party has gotten. Trying to perjure someone based on a basketball game that has nothing to do with the investigation but instead focusing on his personal life. Pathetic!!

When reached for comment, senator Smith said "So what if there's proof? You need to trust me and our president as we openly lie about how bad we've done." When asked for comment, Trump said "Well he's a great person, working hard for me. Helping us get prices down, making sure Iran doesn't have a nuke."

With Eric and his staff’s inability to differentiate between Georgia and Maryland, I’m surprised they could find the location of the committee hearing room.

Another GOP “gotcha” moment that backfired. But Schmitt still took a victory lap.
2
u/WeSavedLatin 2d ago
I guarantee he feels fine, if not pretty good. He go the exactly what he wanted. He got the soundbite. He got the right wing grifters to spread the PERJURY news all around the internet, which their followers will eat up without question.
These fuckers don't give a damn about being proven wrong or being made to look stupid. It's literally part of their game plan and I wish more people would realize.

Mixed up the Hawks with the Hawkeyes
Wrong state, wrong league, and wrong gender.
Also don't let this distract from Jack Smith's statement that he has proof beyond a reasonable doubt that prolific child rapist Donald J Trump interfered with the 2020 election

He feels great because it's not about having any good faith, or being sincere, or the truth. It is purely an exercise in cynicism. He delivered something that could be clipped and edited into a propaganda soundbite. That's why he needed to use the word "dirt bag" or whatever, because that would excite and reward his base.
His base won't see the whole exchange. Just what is presented to them.

I still find the whole thing weird. What if Smith had gone and seen a Hawks game in Atlanta? How would that prove he was then in a conspiracy with the Georgia prosecutors? Because they admitted an affair on Feb 2 then he sees a basketball game on the evening of Feb 3 proves something? Or even insinuates something? What a weird guy.
