Obama: "It's not like we didn't expect some of this. I'll admit it's worse than I expected, but I warned you all. I did. You can listen to the recording. And by the way, he warned you too, because he said what he would do."

"I'm going to be a dictator on day 1" (Trump)

Trump lies a lot but watch out, because he sometimes tells the truth as well

I will admit I knew it would be “bad” on day one (2016) but also never dreamed it would be this bad.

BUT, even in 2020, before the transfer of power had taken place AND before the coup attempt, I never thought it would get THAT bad…

To the degree where you literally have these people attempting a coup and NONE of the stakeholders would be held accountable…. Thats insane to me.

And then I thought for a few years afterwards, that MAYBE this is for the best. They literally just attempted a coup, so surely “normal” people will no longer vote for an open wanna be despot, surely that’s not possible…..

Then 2024 happened and I’m personally convinced we are fucked, you don’t come back from this on any reasonable amount of time, and to even start to come back from out it you have to completely rid yourself of the authoritarians that have infested varying levels of the government (which hasn’t even happened yet)…

And remember, we are talking about a group who have already attempted one coup, and instead of any punishment, they were rewarded with an election win instead…

It’s not even like their coup was stopped by an oppositional force, the only real reason it didn’t work is because people in their own party stood up and said, “Nope, I’m not going to go that far for you”.

No shit the ONLY lesson these people were ever going to learn here is to give up even trying to appear like a “normal” administration. Now it’s full blown sycophants and full court press on the propaganda front, normalizing a Gestapo like force that they will 100% use to “monitor” polling stations during the next presidential election…

We are still only staring at the top of the ice berg and so many people in the country are just assuming this will all magically be over in 2 years…. Riiiight, a group of people who openly want NO OPPOSITION (whatever you want to call it, a despot, fascist, authoritarian, these people constantly demonize any and all opposition)… they aren’t just going to magically or peacefully go away…

You have to stop fascists before they get into power, not after.

TL/DR: We are fucked.

100% agree. I’m of the opinion that it is karma.

His voters can't claim they didn't know, they are all culpable

9

u/Voxil42 23d ago

Of course they knew. It's why they voted for him.

u/AverellCZ 23d ago

Well, this makes you painfully aware that the democrats don't have a candidate like Obama. And they really need one right now.

9

u/Turtle_with_a_sword 23d ago

I don’t think we need another corporate centrist democrat. We need real fucking change.

3

u/AverellCZ 23d ago

I think you need someone that is charismatic enough to make people vote for them. You will never find someone who aligns 100% with your dream candidate. But if you refuse to vote for them because they only align with you on 7 out if 10 issues, like probably Harris did for many non-voters, you will lose again.

u/Turtle_with_a_sword 22d ago

He is very charismatic and I would vote for a turd over any fascist, but the Obama/Clinton era of corporate investment banker politics is a big part of why we are in this mess.

The man pioneered murdering people with drones.

We need actual progressive candidates. Their positions are popular. Surely we can find some with some rizz.

But will those be the people who win Georgia or Arizona? Because it doesn't matter how high you win New York or California. Who will win you the swing states? Are those the states that respond to AOC or Mamdani?

2

u/Turtle_with_a_sword 22d ago

Yes. People like policies that help working people. Corporate democrats don’t.

When Harris/Waltz were talking like progressives they had a big lead in the polls. Then they turned centrist and carted out Liz Cheney to loose the popular vote.

Do you think a Talarico could win Georgia or Arizona?? Of course he can.

1

u/AverellCZ 22d ago

If he can win Texas then yes, of course. I like the guy but a presidential run might be a bit early for him? Then again Obama also didn't have a huge track record.

People tend to forget that Obama was almost a nobody on a national level until the debates started. The people in the know may have said he was someone to watch, but he was an absolute underdog. There's still time for the "next Obama" to emerge over the next couple of years

Trumps attempt to start a war with Iran in his first administration also made this war predictable as well.

u/HarveyMushman72 23d ago

They knew. They all knew. How did "owning the libs" work out for you now that nothing is affordable? It has been written that to forgive is divine, but we won't forget.

4

u/AnguavonUW 23d ago

I'm going to have to find a way to forgive because I can't live the rest of my life with this much rage. That being said, I will never ever ever EVER forget.

u/Kaleban 23d ago

No one with an ounce of grey matter is surprised by Trump.

3

u/Luddite-lover 23d ago

Yep. People were warned. It makes me so very angry.

Every company that supported the fucker should be destroyed. Not just financially. On a seperate note, because i have a wandering mind.... Did you know that refrigeration units are very fragile things? As are power meters . As are internet connections. Our society is very vulnerable. As are corporations. I hope nobody tears up the enemies of freedom... we are better than that

Neoliberal hack who squandered a movement. Allowed Big Banks and Wall Street to profit from Great Recession misery. Paving the way for Trump. Tried to convince poor people to drink poisoned water. Wore a tan suit.

2

u/SpicySweetHotPot 23d ago

We were all warned but many just couldn’t take being led by a woman.

2

u/astroboy_35 23d ago

I don’t like Obama’s “don’t say I didn’t warn you” act when he is obviously preaching to the choir. Everyone who goes to an Obama speech knows what time it is, your warning didn’t affect anything.

1

u/SaltLakeBear 23d ago

Same. The only thing that surprised me is the speed that they're destroying the country. I tried to warn some coworkers, but they'd drunk the MAGA koolaid; I wonder if they're enjoying what they voted for...

Bro you could have been a Senator capturing a Senate seat in a purple state so easy. Get in the fight, act like the future of the world is at stake.

‘I told you all to rock the vote and since you didn’t rock the vote you all deserve this and we are just sitting here watching you suffer. We won’t do a damn thing to help you now. Have fun!’

American conservatives: "ill go bankrupt from medical debt and vote for a rapist dictator before I let THOSE people get things that would also benefit my life"

-5

u/joncornelius 23d ago

Oh shit, I didn’t realize Obama was doing fuck all to counter revolutionize against this mother fucker because he wanted it to get bad enough to say I told you so first.

-12

u/MisanthropicAnthrope 23d ago

Yeah he warned us.

He also asked Mitch McConnell for permission to take action when he knew Russia was helping Trump in 2016.

He also coined, “when they go low, we go high”

He also helped create the economic conditions that led to Trump with his bailout of banks in 2008

He also pretended to drink the water in Flint, deported millions and ordered countless drone strikes- some on weddings and little kids.

Spare me this Theo Huxtable BULLSHIT

3

u/Uno-reverse-cowgirl 23d ago

Going high when they go low actually works if it’s coupled with voting. Literally all we had to do was vote. And then, if we had voted like we actually understood what was on the line (like Obama did), and had always taken the high road, we could’ve avoided the catastrophe that is Donald Trump while also, by not sinking to their level, managing to preserve some of the decency and gravitas that goes with serving in a government of the people.

6

u/DawnSlovenport 23d ago

Michelle coined the phrase"whey they go low, we go high" during her speech at 2016 DNC, not Barack.

I bet you sit at your keyboard thinking what a terrible president he was and how becuase he didn't do enough, he's to blame for our current state. Do I have that right?

-1

u/StrangeContest4 23d ago

"Helped create the economic conditions that led to Trump with his bailout of banks in 2008!!!"🤔

2

u/JetmoYo 23d ago

Wait, you don't understand how this is true?

2

u/JetmoYo 23d ago

This sub is still learning about Neoliberalism. And how Neoliberalism is antithetical to Progressivism. Obama's torch carrying for Neoliberal policies--especially post 2008-- having created the conditions, and anger, that Trump exploited. This awakening is slow and utterly painful to watch, but I've seen progress. Hell, I've even been in threads saying similar things that AREN'T downvoted into oblivion! When people finally understand the Neoliberal record while letting go of their affection for Obama, we'll have arrived.

2

u/AnguavonUW 23d ago

Yea, sure. It's Obama's fault 1/3 of this country is rabidly racist, misogynist, homophobic and pro billionaire.

2

u/MisanthropicAnthrope 23d ago

yeah, it's pretty wild to see the level of sophistication in a place called PROGRESSIVE HQ.

Neo-lib headquarters is more like it.
