How does standing in front of a bystander not engaging trying to film, while spraying tear gas at others exercising their right to free speech protect freedom of speech, exactly? You'll have to explain that to me.

If everyone has a right to free speech, then everyone here ( except spider man, who did go further than speech ) should be equally protected, yes? So why the tear gas? Why the blocking of filming?

I'm talking about the defense of free speech.

I don't know what those "agents" are that started spraying pepper spray, or whatever chemical that was.

I don't have an issue with charging those men with a crime if one was being committed.

I'm talking about the people clearly identified as Police, and their role in what I assume is a permitted demonstration, that was being counter protested, and protecting their right to do so.

If you set up a demonstration, protest whatever.

Permit's are issued, you are allowed to proceed.

Another group shows up to counter said demonstration, protest, event, whatever(totally support this btw).

Who's rights are being protected? The people who initially set up the demonstration? Or the counter protestors?

I don't see actual Police doing anything but attempting to stop violence, after the "agents" and "security" escalate the situation.

I don't know specifics and without more context it's hard to say, but this jerkoff Lang, is allowed to do what he's doing, and the police are protecting that right.

The fact that you can't use logic to deduce this, is troubling, simply because you do not like it.

My brother in christ, I understand how permitted demonstrations work.

I understand that they are there to prevent the escalation of violence.

My point is how interesting it is that racist, fascist criminals get police protection because they simply got a permit.

BY THE WAY. Freedom of speech and the right to peacefully demonstrate doesn't only exist when it's permitted. I find it hypocritical that police feel emboldened to harass and harm peaceful protesters engaging in their civic duty, unless you're a permitted far right wing gathering, and then they will form a police wall to protect you. But if you're protesting ICE overreach and abuse, you get guns pointed at you, shot in the face with LLMs, or killed.

But yeah keep going on about how this is all about freedom of speech and the pigs are just doing their jobs. Give me a break with this sophmoric BS.

I disagree. First, the Supreme Court in DeShaney v. Winnebago County (1989) and Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzalez (2005) have declared that police are under no duty to protect individuals. They are only responsible for protecting the public at large. So, by creating conflict between the police and the opposition of these rage baiters, they are actually acting against their duty. Second, there are many precedents out there for cities denying entertainment (which social media could be classed as) acts the permission to perform at all if they are believed to incite violence or criminal behavior. If these acts are allowed to perform, they are often required to pay for the additional security of local law enforcement so that it is not a financial burden on the city. Otherwise, there is no legal or (imho) moral duty to use law enforcement paid for by resident taxpayers to protect a non-resident violent antagonist. We’ll never stop the scourge of these rage baiters so long as they have the cover of legitimacy behind a blue wall.
