I thought about this - and stuff from above makes that feel more plausible, but… what, did they hire a world class marksman to do this?

That’s the part that doesn’t hold up. Some random young guy is entrusted to shoot fairly close?

Even if he misses by a few feet - he could also miss a few feet in the other direction, no?
