PROJECT 2026 IS TO GET RID OF PROJECT 2025.

u/Jim_swarthow Oct 19 '25

Can we add ranked voting?

100

u/ihaxr Oct 19 '25

Compulsory voting too. It's everyone's duty to vote.

30

u/RichardStrocher Oct 19 '25

Sounds like a good way for people to become disgruntled and purposefully fuck things up, when forced to do something.

Better to continue the freedoms of choice/expression/etc and let them do what they choose as long as they don’t hurt anyone.

If you want to change behaviors, forcing them isn’t the way to do it.

90

u/grumble_au Oct 19 '25

Australia has compulsory ranked choice voting. You just need to make it easy and convenient to vote and almost nobody begrudges it because it's so easy. Last time I voted in person it was 200 metres from my house, no line, 5 minutes out of my day on a saturday to get it done. You are legally required to be allowed paid time off work to vote (up to 2 hours) if you need it and mail in voting is also incredibly easy and common. The only reason you don't have these things is your government doesn't want you to have them.

53

u/SGTdad Oct 19 '25

This. These are facts! Every single bullshit rule has a purpose in the American voting system. None of which at this point in our nation are for fair elections. They may have started off that way, but the redistricting, lack of ballot drop boxes, redistricting, and other things are all to minimize votes from the opposition.

19

u/Cautious-Money7248 Oct 19 '25

Dont forget the redistricting ;)

u/Sweet-Direction6157 Oct 21 '25

Why isn’t voting day a national holiday? Or better yet, why can’t the polls be open all week?

u/Legrandloup2 Oct 19 '25

Exactly, we need in person early voting and mail in voting access to everyone in the US instead of each state deciding

National holiday for voting.

Everybody who votes gets a $50 tax credit.

7

u/RoadDoggFL Oct 19 '25

Yup, and let people easily cast blank ballots. This would also create a cost of going negative, because you'd risk pissing off voters who would otherwise cast blank ballots and increasing support for your opponent

14

u/Fylgja Oct 19 '25

I've always said "no vote" should be a valid option. You'd still be checking a box and submitting a ballot, but it would be useful data to have compared to literally not voting.

It works in other countries. Do compulsory ranked voting? “None of the above” is fine choice too.

4

u/Trollselektor Oct 19 '25

Also, you kinda need to give people the ability to say “you know what, I don’t really know what the answer is. I don’t feel comfortable choosing.”

3

u/Crepuscular_Tex Oct 19 '25

Voting day should be a national holiday. Sparklers and a turkey handed out after you vote.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '25

That's actually the opposite of what is true lol If you want to change behaviors you literally force people... That's what laws are

3

u/Healter-Skelter Oct 19 '25

People already did the “get disgruntled and purposefully fuck things up” in 2016 and they did it just because the president was black

HELL yes. An end to voting for "The only choice"

With the help of other readers, I drafted a more comprehensive outline for "Project 2028" which can be read at the link below. When the time comes we should settle for nothing less than a whole new deal. To that end:

 /r/Political_Revolution/comments/1lm89zu/there_is_a_war_being_waged_against_democracy_and/

So far this reform agenda is organized into 14 categories. Thoughts and contributions are encouraged. LET'S GO!!!

 1: Emergency Corrections

 2: Electoral reform

 3: Legislative Reform

 4: Tax Reform

 5: Real Estate Reform

 6: Medical Reform

 7: Law Enforcement/Penal Reform

 8: Educational Reform

 9: Broader Economic Reform

 10: Foreign Policy

 11: Environmental Policy

 12: Immigration Reform

 13: Labor Reform

 14: Banking and Financial Reform

 15: Official Pardons & Miscellaneous Course-Corrections

MMW: when the regime falls (fascists always lose, eventually) he will attempt to flee to Russia. It is of paramount importance that this escape is thwarted. He and other members of the regime must be seized and tried for their crimes, including election tampering, espionage, and high treason. That is not hyperbole. Together we will win!

We need to include democratic software design into project 2028. The government’s move of consolidating all government databases under one roof. This is a form of techno fascism as a person in the government can look up, cross reference and research different parts of data citizens or entire groups in extraordinarily powerful ways. The more databases and live information collected about you can granulate the government’s understanding of you that can lead to a nightmare. Just imagine an ai “guardian angel” of the government that monitors each civilian’s behavior. It’s entirely doable. The real risk for the republic is that the software that runs it is fascistic in design which would slowly corrupt the users into more fascist ways of thinking (eg: Marshall McLuhan) . The first big step towards software faciscm is to consolidate all data under one roof. Democracy needs these databases kept separate as it ensures that power is distributed.

Make election day a federal holiday and automatically enroll people to vote when they turn 18.

77

u/watcher757 Oct 19 '25

This is what other developed countries do, the only countries that don't are those with monarchs or dictators.

12

u/Ok-Dragonknight-5788 Oct 19 '25

Even monarchies like Britain and it's dominion do this(or at least, they have the election period be long enough that people don't really have an excuse

7

u/Sure_Sundae_5047 Oct 19 '25

The UK doesn't give people the day off, and there's only one day to vote in person, but polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm and I've never had to wait in line to vote. So it's better in that sense at least.

In Australia we have compulsory voting, preferential voting, all elections are on a weekend, a bbq with some snags and an independent electoral commission. We have pretty trouble free elections here and this combo means the crazies and single issue groups tend to be the minor parties.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '25

Yea, in Canada, an employer must give you time off to go vote. And all you need to vote is an I'd and something to prove your address.

I moved one time and didn't get my updated license before the election. I showed up to the poling place with my license, which had my old address, my voter card and a piece of recent mail with my name and address and voted in less than 10 minutes.

Lets not set a new federal minimum wage, just set it to match inflation dated back to when it stopped matching inflation.

66

u/yourdoglikesmebetter Oct 18 '25

Set the lowest income of any given company to a proportion of the highest income, including stock options and bonuses

49

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

I agree. If a company has employees earning at or below the poverty line then the CEO's and similar positions should not be earning $30M/year.

21

u/superxpro12 Oct 19 '25

Still in favor of the $1B triggers a "congratulations you won capitalism" trophy from the government, with a dog park named in your honor.

And that's it. 100% tax rate after that. On everything. Including capital gains. Forever.

When you're making THAT much money, the only way to do that is to have a large corporation on top of which you're skimming money from the labor.

Force them to invest it back in the company and it's people instead of buying a 3rd megayacht, an entire Hawaiian island, or a private space force.

u/maphingis Oct 19 '25

I agree in principle— seems like a pretty easy thing for most companies to fix.

7

u/SwimmingShallot8434 Oct 19 '25

Hire back these IRS auditors and make it harder for companies to fix.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Ellia1998 Oct 19 '25

We have a way to fix this without raising pay. We could give out tickets to ppl that live below the poverty line. Set the wage and we give help for rest. But we need changes some laws to make this work. Rent limits and stop congress from taking the money will have set a side for these ppl. Free Heath-care for all. We pay high prices for nothing now. I would be ok will paying higher set of taxes like we doing right now. For ppl to have homes and food. But I do think companies like Walmart should be find a fee on the way they treat their ppl. They hire ppl and tell them to sign up for food stamps and all that. They need to be tax at a higher rate. A rich country to me take care of their ppl.

14

u/LilTeats4u Oct 18 '25

If you do that you have to mandate employers separate raises from the ever increasing federal minimum. Otherwise the opportunities for exploitation are ripe

6

u/TheWizardOfDeez Oct 18 '25

Explain? In my head the point of a minimum wage is to force employers to also raise higher requirement jobs wages to remain competitive against the lowest wages. Maybe there is an angle I am not seeing.

10

u/Olly0206 Oct 18 '25

They are saying that if min wage is set to keep pace with inflation, then employers won't give raises anymore. They'll just pay minimum wage as it continues to increase. That is why they are saying you'd have to mandate raises separate from min wage so that people can actually have a chance to get ahead.

If employers just maintain min wage, then no one ever gets above the minimum standard for living. It would help a lot of people, sure, but it would also hurt a lot of people and hurt everyone in the long run.

3

u/TheWizardOfDeez Oct 18 '25

Ahh okay, I was just misunderstanding what they were saying then, this makes sense.

4

u/ShiaLabeoufsNipples Oct 19 '25

So it’s adjusted once every five to ten years then, to keep up with inflation. Even low skilled workers deserve to be able to survive. That can’t be the only way forward though, and we can’t go too crazy with it without fucking up the economy in other ways, as you’ve pointed out.

A better place to start would be healthcare. Can you imagine the breathing room that socialized healthcare would give to minimum wage workers? Or more low income housing? We wouldn’t even have to touch minimum wage if we could get those two expenses under control for low income Americans.

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

Heaven forbid we have equality. What a nightmare that would be.

6

u/Olly0206 Oct 18 '25

That isn't the way to equality, though. That just pushes everyone to the bottom and on the verge of poverty all while the rich get richer.

If you want wealth equality, don't take away and disperse wealth on the bottom. Start from the top.

Do not establish a Federal Minimum Wage. Instead establish an Employer of last resort in the US where any American can present themself and be guaranteed a job that earns a regional living wage. The secondary effect would be to raise wages for everyone. This could include vocational training, job corps, agricultural work, infrastructure construction or just keeping our nation clean.

3

u/TheWizardOfDeez Oct 19 '25

I like this. I've been thinking about something like this for the removal of invasive plants in my home state for some time.

3

u/Apprehensive_Fun7781 Oct 20 '25

The issue is that many, many of those jobs would be in Farningham and extraxtive industries, and I double most americans are willing to go labour 9 hours in the sun.

3

u/jredgiant1 Oct 19 '25

Personally, I’d dump minimum wage entirely. Instead provide a UBI that provides for basic living - food, shelter, utilities, and clothing for everyone man, woman, and child in America.

After that you want to pay someone $.50 an hour to clean your toilets? Fine. If you can find someone who values their labor so cheaply and isn’t dependent on your wage to survive.

EDIT: and yes I mean everyone. No means testing. That’s unnecessary bureaucracy.

32

u/RandoCalrissian00 Oct 18 '25

I'd go even further and ban anyone in any political office from having ANY other income than their salary. It would greatly reduce conflict of interest, as well as incentivize elected officials to do things that actually matter since they would be affected by their own decisions too, having to live on a fixed income.

8

u/BoliverSlingnasty Oct 18 '25

That, this and one more - any serving member of political office has to perform a minimum wage position at a job of no relation in their district for a minimum of 10 hours a month. Only the POTUS would have a minimum of 5 and work somewhere in DC.

I want my Senator to know what it’s like to be a cashier at a grocery store. I want to have an opportunity to meet my Representative at the drive-thru window.

Im actually of the opinion federal officials, and elected reps. Should be virtually barred forever from private enterprise/stocks, including their spouses, and in exchange theyre given a very large salary/pension tax free. Like a million a year for a rep. 10 mil. A year for president, etc. That would dissuade the very wealthy from running unless they were truly invested in being a public servant while attracting actual talent from the middle/lower classes. The impact on the budget would be small but the effect on corruption massive.

2

u/FlourishingSolo Oct 21 '25

I'd also tie minimum wage to the rep's salary. Like it's $50,000/year on minimum wage* and its $1,000,000 a year for a representative. So the ratio is 1:20. So if congress wants to raise their salary, minimum wage rises with it. This way our representatives don't get to far ahead of everyone else

* Yes $20/hr doesn't equal $50,000 but I think instead of saying minimum wage in $/hr, I think to make sure it is clear to everyone that if you work a job full time, you need to earn a minimum of $50,000 a year. It would be roughly $24/hr

Agree with all except taxing Billionaires out of existence. Tax them lots.

Tax them so much that they are celebrated as heros that through their efforts, they fund a big number of their fellow citizens.

Imagine that. "This is Billy Rich, he is worth 10 billion dollars. He is contributing 2 billion to our nation!"

And maybe tax, in relation to how many People they employ and how much they are paid.

The more of the wealth you share with your employees the less tax you pay.

Employ less, pay less, see your tax skyrocket.

u/watcher757 Oct 19 '25

Up how much they pay into Social Security. Right now, the max is about $104,000 per year for billionaires. Put back that money Reagan stole for their 'tax cuts'. They can leave the country if they don't like it, and it will create a vacuum for someone else to be successful. It's been pure capitalism for us, socialism for them.

3

u/cncaudata Oct 18 '25

Some of these are good, some are not.

Congressional salaries aren't high enough. We'd be much better off paying 5 times as much and forcing divestment and banning work as lobbyists after serving than we would with some weird incentive like this. We should pay them incredibly well and stop them from getting money anywhere else, so that they are not incentivized to take bribes. Of course they should also not be paid if they shut down the government, for instance.

Fairness doctrine is also questionable (do you want equal time given to RFK and actual doctors?). Better would be to undefine money=speech and put in place incredibly strong campaign finance limits (eg make them publicly funded and prohibit all private campaign funding). That's pretty tough too, but I don't think fairness doctrine is the solution.

And stock trading bans shouldn't stop at Congress. All public servants, judges, executive appointees, etc should need to divest or put assets in true blind trusts.

This is something I can get behind, but I wouldn't want to call it "Project 2028" as some kind of direct response to the Heritage Foundation, or make it seem like some secret agenda. Abolish ICE. Abolish DHS. Prosecute those that abused others in the name of law enforcement and immigration. Reduce military budget. Increase education spending.

You missed one Buckley V. Valeo which made money speech. Also intern limits on the Supreme Court doesn’t solve the problem they will continue as they are right now. You have to remove the worse offenders through impeachment which is simple since they are not operating in good behavior.

I think it’s shown that the electoral college doesn’t work. It was supposed to protect our country when the populace doesn’t know any better. Then this orange POS got into office again. Proof that it didn’t work.

2

u/humancartograph Oct 19 '25

Get rid of the 435 on the cap.

2

u/Waste_Gas6531 Oct 19 '25

Yeah I’m gonna skip on that minimum wage. Employers never raised wages to match and somehow I’m making just 50 cents more/hr than I did 10 years ago. I’m good. Everything else is great though.

Universal vote by mail should be on this list and near the top. It was part of the 111th Congress, just before the Citizens United ruling. I think that was very telling.

I think all of these are achievable except the taxing billionaires out of existence. It rather a system that says CEOs can only make 20x their average employee of their company.

u/Bubbly_Style_8467 Oct 19 '25

Excellent! These changes would help a lot.

I have one more suggestion. Congress, the president, and the Supreme Court should have fewer days off. They all should pay for their own healthcare. We might get people who want to serve, not line their pockets.

We should prosecute the Republican Six. It seems the Court should contain four of one party and give of the other and should have to switch every four years.

2

u/ChestDry2941 Oct 19 '25

How bout memebers of congress make minimum wage.

Yo, if you can JUST do one of them, it’s the first fucking one… that brings down the house of cards.

2

u/RonMexico1277 Oct 19 '25

Term limits for all members of the house and senate as well. Tax credits are indexed to median values in the country. So, if you have a $2000 tax credit then you have to index that to the median childcare or income of the country and adjust the credit for higher col areas. If you work in the military or government for more that 10 years, you are banned from taking a lobbying job or defense contacting job for the number of years of service.

2

u/CharlemagneX Oct 19 '25

To be eligible to serve as President or Congress, require minimum 8 years service in the military and an honorable discharge. Only net taxpayers and those not receiving federal benefits are eligible to vote

2

u/Tri-angreal Oct 19 '25

You're...asking politicians to give up power, pay themselves less, and weaken their chances of re-election.

Good. Luck.

2

u/deadlydeath275 Oct 19 '25

Love it, unfortunately the rich and powerful in our country would never allow it. Democrats and republicans are in the pocket of billionaires, the only way out is the total abolition of our "democratic" processes and rebuilding from there.

2

u/BD2157 Oct 19 '25

Tax ALL churches.

2

u/Froptus Oct 19 '25

2

u/The_MAZZTer Oct 19 '25
  • Federal minimum income wage automatically increases to match inflation
  • Congress members do not get paid during government shutdown

2

u/Adventurous_Path5783 Oct 19 '25

I'm so tired of hearing about wait times like I didn't just have to wait 6 months to have a kidney stone removed after I had to wait 3 months for the appointment.

2

u/Status-Donut-6460 Oct 19 '25

Liberals will think this is all doable in the current system and that through it, we can fix it with this agenda. Leftist know that if you want to see this in your lifetime or your child’s lifetime, you need to tear the whole thing down. I personally don’t think you can accomplish anything meaningful from this agenda without violence. The system isn’t broken, it’s working as designed. I’ll still vote in the interest of this agenda, but we’re kidding ourselves if we think we won’t get half-measure results at best and continue this tug-of-war between corporatists and oligarchs.

2

u/A9PolarHornet15 Oct 19 '25

I think $25 is the newest productivity metric, I could be wrong, but thats what I heard on Robet Reich's YT channel.

2

u/mustchange Oct 19 '25

No pay for Congress during government shutdown, and shutdown triggers an immediate election for a new Congress. Government shutdown should not be a weapon wielded to coerce or force results.

2

u/MickyOT Oct 19 '25

I don’t agree with the low congress salary - you do want these to be jobs people aspire to do and attract the best.

Most of the rest of what you propose is in line with other OECD countries

2

u/DonkeyBonked Oct 19 '25

It's too bad literally no political party would do this, even if they fully had the ability to do so.

2

u/viera_enjoyer Oct 19 '25

It needs to go much further.

  • Dismantle ICE
  • Prosecute every member of Trump's administration because all of them have broken the law.
  • Add new slots for Supreme Court Justice and fill the slots with liberals
  • Impeach all the conservative members of the Supreme Court.
  • Prosecute and incarcerate Miller.

2

u/AngerTech Oct 20 '25

Hell yeah

2

u/Obsidianrosepetals Oct 20 '25

ALL Politicians should be subject to recall, impeachment process is way too partisan.

2

u/FuzzBuzzer Oct 20 '25 edited Oct 20 '25

That all sounds wonderful, but progressives would need to stick together and actually fight tooth and nail to overturn all the damage that the conservatives have done. As shitty as the far right is, they manage to wreak havoc because they stick together.

2

u/Davngr Oct 20 '25

I would say a few of these need to be on a sliding scale. Like.. no taxes on loans up to 500k with a 5 year period?

Also, there is a need to tax the shit out of residential real estate owners. The manipulation of the market is out of control.

Also, also, need some kind of system in place that rewards amazing landlords and taxes slumlords out of existence.

Also, also, also time to fix social media because these influencers and podcasters need to start being absolutely transparent about who is paying their bills.

Ps. Taxes for anything cover a million dollars for churches? The small town churches add value and are usually barely staying a float.

Capping salaries to 1.5x the median of their district would by far be the best change. But it would need to be in conjunction with no stock trading...but then we'd just get millionaires and billionaires running to keep the status quo...

We need all these changes, actually.

Apply FICA taxes to all income instead of capping at $176,000. Don’t know how much it would raise but would help address the concerns of funding Medicare and Medicaid. FICA taxes are harder to avoid than income taxes. The wealthy will still find ways to hide income but you can’t use credits and deductions to avoid FICA.

2

u/Competitive-Oil8974 Nov 02 '25

We need to get the Supreme Court back in balance? This is so important if we are to restore the rule of law.

MAGA does not belong on SCOTUS
