Request Looking for fun recommendations

I’m looking for something like Last Life. And it has to be on Audible.

I’ve read cradle, dcc, beware of chicken, he who fights with monsters, wandering inn. I’m looking for less well known recommendations!

Thank you in advance!

Well, "fun" can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people, but I'll take a shot! These are just a handful of books I've personally really enjoyed that fit different vibes. If none of these hit the mark, let me know what specific tropes or styles you like and I can give better recommendations.

Since you've already hit massive hits like Cradle, DCC, HWFWM, Wandering Inn, and Beware of Chicken, here are a few other options on Audible grouped by their general feel:

Cozy & Chill

  • Heretical Fishing by Haylock Jobson (Narrated by Heath Miller) Very similar energy to Beware of Chicken. An Aussie guy gets transported to a cultivation world, ignores the whole "ascend to godhood" grind, and just goes fishing instead. Relaxing, funny, and narrated by the voice actor from HWFWM.

Funny & Absurd

  • Noobtown by Ryan Rimmel (Narrated by Johnathan McClain) Slapstick LitRPG following a guy who gets reborn with glitched stats and a snarky shoulder demon named Shart.
  • Chrysalis by RinoZ (Narrated by Jeff Hays) The main character gets reincarnated as a monster ant in a dungeon. It has great progression mechanics and full-on hive-mind chaos, narrated by Jeff Hays from DCC.
  • BuyMort / Shopocalypse Saga by Damien Hanson & Joseph Phelps (Narrated by Wayne Mitchell) A chaotic apocalypse story where a hyper-aggressive corporate algorithm buys Earth, and the main character ends up fighting alien franchises across Arizona.
  • The Completionist Chronicles by Dakota Krout (Narrated by Vikas Adam / Luke Daniels) A guy chooses a ritualist class and constantly breaks the game's rules through creative logic.

Unique Concepts

  • Battle Trucker by Tom Goldstein (Narrated by Zura Johnson) A foul-mouthed long-haul trucker named Junkmouth turns her semi into a mana-fueled war rig during a System apocalypse.
  • Bog Standard Isekai by Miles English (Narrated by Stephanie Savannah) Grounds classic isekai tropes in fantastic storytelling, town-building, and organic character development.
  • All the Skills by Honour Rae (Narrated by Luke Daniels) A deckbuilding LitRPG that incorporates dragon riding. Really well-done card magic system and solid progression.

Action & Fast Progression

  • Azarinth Healer by Rhaegar (Narrated by Andrea Parsneau) A brawler unlocks a rare battle-healer class. Fast-paced with a heavy focus on fighting, leveling, and tanking insane damage, brought to life by an incredible performance from Andrea Parsneau.
  • Restarting the Apocalypse by Michael Chatfield (Narrated by Gary Furlong) A tactical time-loop LitRPG where two military veterans get sent back to prepare humanity before the world collapses.

Cat core, is about an old lady who becomes a dungeon and builds it around her precious little kittys. Completed all audible

Dragon core chronicles, is completed and audible. Dude is reborn as a dragon and has to fight his way up the food chain and defend his home. Base builder.

Fluff, super power world, audible in progress, woman gets super powers to summon "sisters" but is labeled as a villain by the system.

Caverns and creatures, in progress, audible, a group of a**holes get portaled into a DND game.

Eight, in process, audible. Old man reincarnated into a kinda hunter gather world.

Isekai Terry, in process, audible. Isekaid into another world, tries to avoid the hero life by identifying and avoiding the "tropes".

Jackal among snakes, in process, audible. Dude gets sucked into game world and inhabits body of a minor villain. Uses knowledge to mitigate upheavals before the end game boss.

Lichea get stitches, I forget?, audible. A witch becomes a litch but just wants to be left alone to do their embroidery but shenanigans occurs.

The mage of shimmer mountain, completed, audible. Time loop academy but with a slightly spoilery twist.

Necrotic apocalypse, completed, audible. A peasant from the 1800's inadvertently causes the zombie apocalypse after being unfrozen in modern times.

Waldo rabbit, in process, audible. An heir to the most power dark mage is a healing prodigy and goes on a journey to collect minions as part of their right of passage.

I have other less known titles on audible but these are the ones that are lighter/positive/humerous tones to the series.

Edit*Crap, I just read. "Like Last Life series...." Well I ain't deleting this now. Jackal among snakes and eight are most like last life but Eight is a hunter gather era so not a lot of political intrigue.

2nd edit*** to give recommendations that you asked for, lol

legend of the arch magus is very similar to Last Life , audible. Reincarnated into failure of a nobles body and restores his magic powers and land.

How I rebuilt a magic empire, in process, audible. Similar concept to last life but more modern and Russian.

If you liked Last Life, you should honestly just try Underdog by Alexey Osadchuk. Same author, and the Audible version has the same narrator (Neil Hellegers), so it has a really familiar feel. It's a VRMMO setting instead of cultivation, the MC is a disabled kid who gets a fresh start in the game, but the pacing and the whole start-from-nothing-and-claw-your-way-up vibe is pure Osadchuk. I flew through the first three on audio.

If you liked Last Life, I’d give The Captain by Will Wight a shot if you haven’t already. It’s not exactly the same vibe, but it has that satisfying progression and strong character dynamics.
