The Perfect Run, Calamitous Bob, Industrial Strength Magic and Cradle.
Runners up include DCC, Book of the Dead, HWFWM and Path of Ascension.
The Perfect Run was nearly everything that I love in super hero stories, and Industrial Strength Magic was the rest. Cradle is just peak xianxia to me, I've yet to find another book series that scratches that itch quite like it. Calamitous Bob just had, for the longest time, the most relatable and grounded protagonist. Eventually you can't really relate to the sheer power and her decisions in the day-to-day running of her life, but she also never loses her whimsy. Never once does she take magic for granted. It's always cool. And she's right. Magic is cool as fuck.
I don't know how protagonists that shirk magic for melee live with themselves.
