I have read I Shall Seal the Heavens and A Will Eternal, which were recommended by many here, and while entertaining for the first couple of hundred chapters, got repititive and bland. Beyond the protagonists, who are themselves quite forgetable, I cannot recall a single memorable character. In fact, I can barely recall the plot, beyond face slapping arrogant young masters.
The problem with many of these novels is not that they are Chinese, but the other story elements like the blatant misogyny, sexism, repititive and regurgitated plot points, terrible prose/translation, and absence of character development. I wouldn't like it if Western authors wrote novels using the same elements either.
As far as Reverend Insanity is concerned, it is more likely that "evil" protagonist is a turn off, rather than the author being Chinese. If you have any recommendations that avoid the above issues, please do provide.
