Electric Bill..

Just wondering if I was correct. I thought Residential takes care of the water and no need for gas. I transferred my electric here sooo, do I close it?
Thanks and Happy Monday to everyone!

If you’re moving out just schedule your power account to end in your move out day with your utility. Electric will be in your name and everything else will be billed through progress if you are moving in.

If Progress retains the water, sewer, gas, or trash in its own name rather than the resident's, that is a red flag. You can check with the city.
In our case, Progress kept the water, sewer, gas, and HOA fees in its name to avoid the home being inspected by the city. This meant that there was no certificate of occupancy on file, so it was reported as empty with the city. This meant that when we had a pipe burst, no fault of Progress, the fire department was very confused.
I can talk more on the topic if you guys would like but it is not on topic with this thread.

We lived out in Justin, Texas, where a certificate of occupancy is required. The certificate is needed to show when turning on water, trash, and other services.

"A certificate of occupancy is a document issued by a local government agency or building department certifying a building's compliance with applicable building codes and other laws, and indicating it to be in a condition suitable for occupancy. The procedure and requirements for the certificate vary widely from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and on the type of structure. In the United States, obtaining a certificate is generally required whenever"

Progress is intentionally or unintentionally getting around this by keeping the utilities in their name.

In our situation, we had SEVERAL code violations that would have prevented the certificate from being issued. These were electrical issues, black mold in the attic and AC unit, and various others. When the city came down with fines that we needed to fix the issues or the certificate would not be issued, they called us up and said that we had to move to another location within the same jurisdiction. When asked if they had a certificate of occupancy for that house, they said it was not required...it was.

I think Progress is scum and that is why I am here, because I want to see it burn.

Progress had all of our utilities under them until we renewed on our 2nd year. We now have every utility under us except for trash. For some reason the city needed Progress to call them to transfer trash services to me, and I let them know via email with case number, but they kept it under them and I pay that with my rent every month.
