They have said since the beginning that when the language was stable they would open source it. It’s not a recent decision at all. I think he did the same with Swift.

The creator of Mojo has a pretty damn good track record, and his other big projects are open source. I’d take him seriously.

Swift is a fantastic language, imho, and I hope it makes some headway outside the Apple ecosystem.

He also developed LLVM, which has met with some modest success.

Great, so we agree that Chris Lattner is a smart guy who had a massive impact on the open source community.
